Setch
Shapijng the head and heel transitions of a Les Paul style guitar Shaping the neck shaft of a Les Paul style guitar That's how I do it, anyone else?
Guitarfrenzy
When I first started I used a spokeshave until I built a copy carver like below. It makes roughing out the neck easy. Not sure you'd want to build one or not, but just something to think about.
Lex Luthier
No pics of the actual process, but I use the idle drum of a stationary beltsander.
Jehle
For me it was a belt sander, hand sanding, and a swiss army knife (used as a spoke shave). <plug> It's all on the new CD. </plug>
Southpa
I have no pictures to illustrate my methods (and madness ), but they basically involve a combination of wood rasps and spoke shave for roughing in and then sandpaper starting at 80 grit for the smoothing part. I keep a 1 ft. straightedge (steel ruler) handy to make sure I stay on track. How far do you go? Why, until it feels good! Skr4ped
I use a surform, and a round rasp. I rough sand with a drum sander in my drill press, and then sand it smooth.
