I have had a couple guitars with the problem Brian's describing in our store...

Some trem posts had tilted foward for about 2 to 3 mm. The wood was too soft like brian said. It was hell to intonate that thing without proper repairs :o

This even happened with some early 90's Ibanez models which were brought in for repair. They had the usual Ibanez studs, but even those pressed the wood towards the neck. Because of that the studs couldn't be turned for height adjustment because the whole stud with brushing would rotate in the wood. :D

In order for this not to happen any more, we drilled a much bigger hole and filled it with hard mahogany wood. Then drilled new holes. Because the mahogany was glued in and thus attached to the surrounded basswood it couldn't move and press against the front of the basswood. Problem solved B)

the usual ibanez inserts are too small in my opinion.if they are going to make so many basswood guitars they need to have larger inserts, like the schaller tuneomatics.it's all about being cheap.unfortunately alot of the expensive jems are also basswood.the tone is o.k. but not very sweet.
