Alarung Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 Hey, I'm at the point in building where I need to figure out my finish. I've got a beautifully grained ash body, and I want to do a traditional 2-tone brown sunburst lacquer. My question is: Can I use spray cans and regular stain to do this finish? Is spray lacquer compatible with a furniture\wood stain(eg. Minwax) Can any reccomend what to look for in a product, or a particular brand? Can I do this and have it look semi-professional? Thanks, Quote
VanKirk Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 Try Guitar Reranch. They have aerosols and a tutorial for sunburst finishing with spray cans. They have a useful forum as well. Good luck and post pics when you're done. Quote
Alarung Posted December 31, 2004 Author Report Posted December 31, 2004 They can only ship via ground within the US. Thanks all the same though. The forum ooks promising. Quote
Maiden69 Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 I think that they can do UPS Ground, but I'm not sure. But depending on the type of burst you want you can do with dyes, or candy paints like HOK or water based airbrush paint. I don't know if they will be compatible with the Minwax stuff, I think that you should stay clear from oil based stains if you plan on clearing, or you will have too wait a lot of time for that stuff to completely cure before adding the clear, you can have adehesion problems. Fluke Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 (edited) I'd go the nitro stains from www.stewmac.com . hey also sell small glass vials with "power-units" which they hook up to so you can spray without buying expensive spraying equipment. Edited January 1, 2005 by Fluke Quote

Fluke Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 well why the heck not?? Hopefully someone made use of my post anyway, What are forums for if not to help people? Quote
Maiden69 Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 Just have to do with flammable stuff. Thats why I said to call them to see if they will ship UPS ground. US laws prohibit the shippment of flammables thru the air mail. Quote
