fryovanni
I have been working on a neck thru LP. The body is Mahogany as is the neck + single Purple Heart stringer. The top and headstock veneer is Curly Maple. I was going to make two at once, but I have really been pushed for time so I decided to let the second one age while I finish the first. I have posted progress photo's at Yahoo. They are shown in order as I progressed. I also have CAD drawings for the project if anyone would like to critique them I would be happy to send you a copy. Let me know what ya think, I will add more photo's shortly. LP Pics Fryguy Happy New Year Everyone!!!!!
RGGR
Would be slightly more helpful if your photo account at Yahoo was open to the general public.
fryovanni
Sorry!!! I screw this stuff up everytime. I went to the albums and opened them to the public. I will play Smells like teen spirit 101 times to repent (uhhh... No, too cruel.). Please forgive my bad. Fryguy

Mahelcaya
Really nice work, I like your shop too !
fryovanni
Thanks, RGGR Thats my $75.00 router table.I grabbed most of the parts from a scrap metal bin we have at work. It took some hunting to find the parts that would work tight and smooth enough, plus a cheap router. I was really supprised at how nice it works. CudBucket
It's beautiful. I'd love to know more about that router rig you've got too! Dave

fryovanni
CudBucket- I will see if I can take some pictures, and post up a quick how its put together thang. It is very simple, but some of the parts I used are odd electrical parts(as I am an electrician). Matt- It is kinda sexy, but it's not leathal like most of the weapons you create. I'm a big fan of your work. Peace all, Fryguy
Drak
Love it. Beautiful guitar, photos are spaced out really nicely, and the entire photo album is done in a nice, easily understandable, quick-loading format. I love -everything- you did, not just the guitar! fryovanni
I posted up an album w/photo's of the router table. I will do my best to describe the parts. I will reference the pictures in the album below. Router Pic's Pic # 1-The table is based on (4)-5/8" running thread rods with large fender washers and nuts. I used 1-5/8" unistrut as my base (you could probably just use wood or drill holes in a table). In my case I wanted to be able to lift it off the table and lean it against a wall for storage. 2-The next layer is the table. I used two layers of MDF with some metal bracing below. I really wanted as close to flat and stable as I could. Mark and drill your holes at each corner for the rod. Nut & washer above and below at each corner. This will allow you to adjust the height and level the table. 3 & 4-I placed boards running lengthwise then side to side. I also have two additional boards I can drop down on the rods (side to side to add stability). The side to side boards are designed to swing out of the way if needed. 5 & 6- The router travels on two 3/4" steel rods. The rods run through electrical termination lugs at each side. The lugs have bolts that run through the bottom and guide the lugs in the "T" track. I have one of the bolts at each lug that I can tighten to stop travel. The steel rods can slide through the lug also or I can lock it with the compression screw you see above the rod. The wooden frame I used to attach the router is connected to the rods with 3/4" PVC adapters and 3/4" two hole straps. You may also see I used a wing nut attached to the router base for easy removal. 7 & 8- I had to lock the steel rods together by clamping steel and unistrut to the rods. This locks the rods so they remain square during travel. 9,10 & 11- Are clamps, wedges and levels I use during routing. The table is also handy for may other things and can be use to lock parts down at odd angles. Well I hope this made some sense. I am sure there are better ways to put one of these together, but the basic concept seems to work well. Best of Luck!!! Fryguy
Maiden69
I love your table, this and some nice templates will make carving tops almost as easy as a CNC. I like your guitar, especialy the carve for the heel, very nice and somenthing that every LP should have, I hate the awful feel of mine when I try to reach past the 16 fret. One thing I'm trying to figure out is how are you going to pass the cables from the Pup switch to the control cavity, I didn't see the rout for them before gluing te top, and I don't see the hole in the control cavity. Are you going to drill all the way thru the body to do this? I know it can be done, but it's a pain in the neck.
fryovanni
Maiden- I have drilled through the body. I have a long bit that I use. You don't see it in the pic's because haven't posted them yet.I probably should have drilled out all the cavities and channels prior to Topping it , but this my first attempt at an LP and hind sight is 20/20 . On the up side I have the second one that I have not topped yet and I will route first.
Maiden69
Cool, very nice one, can't wait to see the 2nd. Is it a LP type too?
RGGR
Don't you love those little screw-up......Aiiiiiihhhh! They say it's the fun of building you're own guitar.......I'm not sure about all that.
fryovanni
Maiden, If ya look at some of the first few pics you will see the second LP. I have the body/neck,top is cut to fit, fretboard and such. The initial idea was to see if I could make them twins. I am not sure about color yet. I do know I will dye the top (probably burst of some sort). RGGR- We don't call em scew ups, we call them opertunities.
skye
hmm... groovy man... LPs make my mouth water 'cause I won't ever be able to afford to buy one (they don't make ANY cheap lefties) ... but, just like all the other "done-yourself" LPs I've seen on this site, this is an inspiration to get started buildin mine. So, I'm quite glad you were so generous as to take developmental pics and show your progress on this... and do show finals 'cause I'd just love to see. jer7440
Just wondered how you like your HF bandsaw?
fryovanni
Jer7440- It has really worked well for me. LGM had pointed out possible issues with weak castings. This one does not have the pot metal castings he warns about, but I respect his opinion and can't recommend them. I will be posting new pics as soon as I can. fryovanni
Finally got a little time to work on this project. I polished up the fretboard and installed frets. I am hoping to get after the last of the hardware prep and finish the carve on the top this weekend. Then I can get to finish sanding and dye and clear coat. I have not made up my mind on what color to dye the top. I know I want to do a burst. Any suggestions? Photo Album Peace, Rich
