Guitar Trading?

okay well..here is the deal...i have a ton of guitars, and some of them are not my style...i went through a phase where i bought alot of guitars on impulse, and now i have whittled them down to the ones that are my favorites, and the ones that are not...i have 2 notables that, although i like them and they sound and play great, they do not "fit" with my other guitars,in that strapping them on feels too unlike my others for me to get used to them...they are

1)gibson les paul studio plus 99(about one year old..played barely at all)in which i swapped out the pickups for an emg zw set and replaced the knobs with ebony ones(actual ebony wood, not just ebony colored)..the wiring is top knotch...

2)gibson explorer...bought about 2 weeks after the lp at a blemish discount..it is completely stock, and the blemishes that it was discounted for are scratches in the finish on the back...i guess someone played it with a belt buckle from hell.it is wine red transparent.it is not as nice as the lp...

i payed around $1200 for the lp if i remember right...and around $600 for the exlorer..i WOULD be willing to sell them for a reasonable price...but i am really looking to trade for an equivelent value guitar..or maybe even an amp if it was the right one, although it would mst likely have to be a jcm800,because that's all i really jones for in an amp,but it doesn't hurt to ask,as long as it's not ridiculous.

you guys mostly all know what i like to play...for the guitar the only "requirements" are that it either be a neck through or a set neck, and be as high end as the guitar you want to trade for...

by the way...both these guitars come with the original hardshell case

i will take pics tomorrow in the daylight outside so you can see what they are exactly...but don't worry,i will be completely honest about whether or not we are both getting a fair deal.

just so you know...if someone had a jeff hanneman esp with the kahler or some other insane guitar such as that...or an actual esp kh2..i would be willing to trade both...and i also have other guitars i would sweeten the pot with if necessary(but that would have to be a completely insane guitar)

anyway..i hope we can help each other out..i am completely honest,as i am sure anyone on this forum who has dealt with me can tell you.

okay...well i was too lazy to make it outside today,so i took some inside pictures.

yes the lp has a bridge pickup...i just don't have it installed in that guitar right now,but of course it would come with it...plug in harness,as you can see

on the last picture, you can see the belt rash on the back of the explorer...they are deep scratches, but not through the finish,so they would buff out i think

How much would you be willing to sell the explorer for rather than a trade?

well i just checked and i was way off on how much i paid for it...here is the original reciept

1 Heritage Cherry Gibson Blem Explorer Electric Guitar Heritage Cherry $849.15 $849.15 Shipped 02/14/05 02:23PM

on the les paul

1 Transparent Amber Gold Hardware Gibson Les Paul Studio Plus 99 Transparent Amber Gold Hardware $1199.00 $1199.00 Shipped 02/05/05 03:16AM

i guess i could let the explorer go for about $750 plus shipping...i don't want to lose too much money

Wes, off topic, but given you paid the $1200 for the Les Paul Studio, you hadn't ever considered trying out something like this had you?

I'm not necessarily suggesting it, as I have only played one a tiny bit... I am more interested in your opinion of it, especially because it comes standard with (close to) your normal pickup configuration.

I am looking at a new guitar, and looking at spending ~$1000USD has just made me think that Carvin or ESP/LTD or Schecter would be such a better choice than Gibson?

i considered it...but there area few things about that guitar..

the top of the esp is quilted maple..not hard maple, and i wanted a les paul for the sound of it...and you don't get that les paul sound with a soft maple top..this lp has a great sound.

that esp is gaudy...it is all flash, which makes me wonder if they care what it sounds or plays like.plus most of my korean made insttruments have dissapointed me

and the number one reason is that a REAL gibson holds it's value much better than a copy does...

this lp is really a super nice guitar.it just turns out that i can't get used to the thicker body...if i had that esp i would have the same problem, only i could never get even close to my money back for it.

besides..don't you ever just want something real?i think when you get that ormsby you are never going to want to play a cheap guitar again...so you may as well not buy that ltd...you will not be happy with it

Cheers Wes, totally understandable points.

I doubt I would have wound up ever buying that guitar anyway, as even though I cant deny I had liked the idea of them, for that money I can get a really great Carvin.

Thanks again,

- Dan
