you also have to worry about the neck pickup. it would be a bit tricky to mount a single coil, and probably near impossible with a humbucker unless you used a slightly thicker body and maybe some well-measured screws. I've been kicking around the idea something like that of a reverse half neck-thru set neck type design.

i can't see the link but i think you are talking about a deep set neck tenon?

it is basically a one piece body design with a routed back to accept a long neck tenon which starts at almost the same depth as the body and tapers away into nothing.you glue it in.but i guess you could screw it instead.

hmm... having a hard time understanding this... must be the heat...

so are we talking about making a bolt-on with an extended heel (kinda like the extended fingerboard thing except now it's the heel)? I'm thinking you might want to consider not having a neck pickup in that case as it would sit in the heel, weakening the construction. You might get away with using only 4 bolts, but you might want to place them further apart. 6 bolts is another option but that would probably mean that you couldn't even consider a neck pickup (with 4 bolts you could place the pickup between the two pairs but with 6 bolts that area would probably be used by the extra bolts)

I think my brain is malfunctioning...

Sounds like you are trying to do the same trick that Frank Gambale wanted on his guitar. Access all the way up to the last fret, and a bolt on neck. The tremlo springs are screwed right into the neck!

I'm having trouble finding out any details, but there's a nice picture of it here...
