Tom
i took the trem cover of to day on my guitar to find one of the screws that goes into the body where the springs are attached was not screwed in, a soon discovered that there was no longer any thread left in he wood so with the force of the springs the screw slides right out , im planin to take it back to the shop tommorow, any body had same problem ? any ideas of how to fix it myself ? Please respond quick !
Scott Rosenberger
Drill out the hole and glue in a hardwood Dowel (Golf Tees work well). When the glue is dry redrill the hole smaller than the screw and thread in the screw and you're all set
Guitarfrenzy
also you can glue a couple of toothpicks into the wood with Titebond and let it set overnight and then you should be able to screw it back into the wood... Good Luck..
Scott Rosenberger
The toothpick trick owrks really well for strap buttons, but I'd worry about doing it on the trem claw. Those springs pull pretty hard.
krazyderek
my strat has sooo much threading in that wood i actually stripped both screws several times... i ended up having to replace the screws instead of the wood but mine was a lot less work
Guitarfrenzy
Yes, it does have alot of tension, but the trick does work.. Did it to a friends Strat and it still works... guess the glue is harder than the original wood.. lol
