Drak
This is a guitar I just started a few days ago. It's a redesigned V (not that hard to do after all...) but is more of a 'swept wing' design compared to the other ones. Core wood is Spanish Cedar, which is very light, almost as light as Basswood really. Notice the Delta Scroll Saw (trumpets blare ) cutting effortlessly thru 2" stock.] More pics as progress continues. This pic is showing the new 'swept wing' design compared to the design used for Hammerhead and Desdemona. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y290/Draa...20V/BABYV-1.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y290/Draa...20V/BABYV-2.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y290/Draa...20V/BABYV-3.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y290/Draa...20V/BABYV-5.jpg
erikbojerik
Drak, scrollsawmeister! (that's a real word in German) I have a feeling you don't cut many scrolls with that one. Looking good! I can definitely see the appeal of the sleeker body. BTW, make sure your neighbor doesn't swipe them bods off the fence...
TeiscosRock
I really like the sleek design - but I'm always one for sleekness. Does anyone else always want whatever type of guitar Drak seems to be building at any given time? Before, with all the great Teles, I was proud to have a tele, but now I'm craving a V-style guitar! Drak
I just thought of a good name for it. Little Wing.

jer7440
BTW, make sure your neighbor doesn't swipe them bods off the fence... Come now! We all know that the moat on the otherside of that fence is filled with hungry sharks and alligators. No need to worry about anyone steeling anything. Drak, is that a granite surface plate or is it a piece of granite countertop?
topper
Hmmm i think i could be turn into a thief looking at that where do you live Drak ? Looking forward to seeing that one finished.

Drak
It's fake granite countertop I think. Nice flat surface for glueups tho. PS, I could call mine "Metal Wing' if you'd like.
hooglebug
hehe. well, i suppose yours is more suited to Little Wing, as its little and has wings. whereas mine is big and has wings. but i guess its like when you call a big huge fat guy tiny. topper
Very nice Drak i was wondering how you are going to finish that guitar ? Also are you going to use a tailpeice or are you going to use ferrules ?
Drak
I'm going to use top and bottom ferrules, and the dye has already been applied, should be shooting lacquer later today I hope. It's black/sanded back, then a mix of turquoise blue (which is really like emerald green to me) and blue, so it's not really blue and not really green, somewhere in the middle. Here is a shot of the rear body sealed with CA glue.
topper
I know the colour you mean like a mackerel LOL. To be honest it's one of my fav's. I think that ferulles are a good idea, sort of glad to hear you say that. BTW what the hell is CA glue ?
Drak
Superglue. I've been using it a LOT this year as a pore filler/sealer.
redwhiteandthemaple
Is this a string thru? That'd be lovely. That veneer looks really nice. If someone told me it's a mapletop, I would probably fall for it....
topper
Superglue. I've been using it a LOT this year as a pore filler/sealer. I set myself up there ! Never knew you could do that ! I saw the super glue pot in the pic and wondered if that was CA , but thought that was madness. So i guess if your not going to stain the guitar it's a great way to seal it, or am i wrong again and you can stain the guitar still ? Guitarfrenzy
Looking great so far Drak, that's gonna be a very nice guitar when you get done with it.
Drak
OK, here's a shot with 3 coats of lac on it. It will get a darker blue-to-black edge burst. Notice my crappy veneer job, you can see the seam running down the center. Veneer is so damn tricky, I laid it out in the sun for 1/2 hour while doing other things, and it shrank that tiny amount, enough to irritate me, ...but oh well, 'sall good. Setch
I wouldn't normally suggest this, since it's not a look I particularly dig.... but I can see a thin abalone centre strip looking very tasty with that top (with, of course, the added bonus of concealign the centre seam). It'd probably be a tough trick to pull now that everythings stained and cleared, but maybe worth a thought. Anything to keep WOD hungry, right
Drak
I been thinnin' boud' dis heyah dilemma, and I have come up with an answer that will STUN THE WORLD! ...She's going underground until I rework her up to my new idea, shouldn't be but a week or so I think, and will resurface as a -completely- different looking guitar. Daniel Sorbera
Good. I was going to sugest you plane/sand off that veneer and do some kind of solid finish with a graphic maybe. That shape just doesn't look good with the light blue stained quilt IMHO it is screaming out for a solid color with either some pinstriping or some kind of graphic.
