al heeley
Hi, what is the thickness of the body and the thickness of the top on a PRS Custom 24? Thanks!! The mahogany body is about 35mm thick, and the maple top varies from 5-6mm at the thinnest (by the neck and sides) to about 12mm max at the bridge
Jester
The mahogany body is about 35mm thick, and the maple top varies from 5-6mm at the thinnest (by the neck and sides) to about 12mm max at the bridge The top is only 12mm thick? Are you sure? It sure looks thicker in the photos. I've been wondering about the top thickness too since I'm making a PRS style guitar at the moment. The top is 17mm and I've been worrying about it being too thin and I'd have to use real binding. Where did you get those measurements? Mattia
15-16mm is a bare minimum for a nice, deep carve. 12mm is 1/2", which means you get about 1/4" of depth to your carve. Now, if you mean 1/2" (12mm) in addition to the 6mm (1/4") at the edges, then we're talking...
prs man
I use 3/4 ash top for my prs copy. and the back is 1 inch thick I made it a carve top with 1/4 maple edge all around so it looks like binding. the maple edge is larger around the neck. I just got a emil from feff miller and he used 1/2 thick top for his prs all the pictures are on his web site http://www.guitaristjeffmiller.com/guitars10.htm hope that will help you

al heeley
yep my cu24 is 35mm mahogany and max 12-13 mm on top of that at the base of the bridge for the maple top. The perimeter is 6-7mm.
jay5
Keep in mind that you can carve a recurve around the edges to "deepen" the carve a bit without bringing your binding edge down.

Wow! I totally forgot about that! No bending the binding (wooden) around those horns for me then. Yay!
