Drak has asked me to post photos for some of the Newbies. I have not been on the forum for several years. In 2003 I did my first build.Since then I have had alot happen.I now have two beautiful children.

In late August I got into a head-on collision with a car.I was on my Triumph motorcycle.OUCH!

I just went back to work last week.

I am now building two basses(maybe three)so will need the help of all the great luthiers here. This is The best resorce around.

I could not have built this guitar without it.

Nice job. What bridge set did you use?

I like it! I'm a fan of headless designs and its also nice to see something other than the usual. The bridge looks like an ABM headless to me...

Regards,

Rob

Don't forget the amp/cabinet.

I thought it was you when I saw a post earlier.

Glad that you're Ok and not a mystery stain on the road :D

Kaj (the P*ss artist formally known as Hotrock)

Thanks TM

Here`s the amp.I`ve since made a Mahogany Cover for the head, but I don`t have any pictures of it.

The amp I built from The Marshall 18 watt spec. They have a DIY forum .

I think I used the ABM tailpiece and head but I have a Schaller roller tun-o-matic.I can measure the posts for you,but the spacing on each string is fully adjustable.Three years ago they didn`t charge half of what they are charging now.I think I just discarded the Bridge they sent me.

Awesome work. Can't wait to get those fingerboard out to you. Just got the jig completed and it's working great! Let me know if you want the pictures of your fingerboards posted here, or if you want to keep it a surprise!

Thanks Jon.

Wow there crazy!

Love that one with the different stripes of wood in very inventive!

Certainly, although off-topic - As cool as this idea is, if there is ever a problem with the fingerboard in the future it wont be salvagable if I have to remove it with heat. Now if it were epoxied together, or held together with something that doesn't budge easily to heat, then it would last after a simple fingerboard repair. I'll post pictures / ideas of it on my 6-string bass thread.

Great job on the guitar, Goat.

Can you tell us anything about the homemade fret caul press pictured in your slide show of the guitar?

Sure I can tell you.

A press at the time I made it was about $200.00 and just the arbor about $110.00

The Brass insert that actually goes over the fret was $2.99.So I bought that.

I welded Three pieces of 1/8"steel together, the larger one(not thicker. It is as wide as the brass cawl) in the middle and the two outside ones the length of the cawl a little lower so the brass cawl would sit inside it.I drilled a hole in the middle plate ,and welded two washers to each side of a steel rod so I could run a bolt thru it.

I just tighten The Steel Rod in my Drill press and use it like an arbor press.

The rod comes to the top of the middle piece of steel to give the force of pressure, but I leave the bolt so the whole cawl has movement so the fret seats itself nicely. This was my first fretwork and I did not have to do anything to the tops of the frets for finishing. They were all the exact height. They seated ,I cut and finished the ends using the block with the leather that I made from Brians tutoral(The one with the angles, then you flip it)Tuned the guitar and intonated it,and that was it!No buzz or flat spots and it is that way to this day.

It`s a little primative looking, but it works and I saved a lot of money.
