Willwork4food
Hey all. I'm looking for ways to make a pickup system thats kinda like Snap On Tools. What I mean is... Having pickups that are interchangeable by snapping them in and out. One idea was to have the pickup ring have wiring in it and the pickup itself pop in like a 9 volt battery. Just wondering if this is possible or been done before. Thanks
GregP
The Dan Armstrong plexi guitar has snap-in/out. The system uses 1/4" connectors from what I can tell.

Mickguard
I remember seeing a picture of a demonstration guitar from Gibson --it was designed to show different pickup combinations. The pickups mounted from the back and the wires clipped together.
Sambo
I've been doing this for a few years now. I cut the pickup wires very short and put a 3 pole connector on the end, and have the cut piece of pickup wire with the other side of the connector going into the electronics cavity. Works well. westhemann
emg actives do this as well...it's a wiring harness
GodBlessTexas
emg actives do this as well...it's a wiring harness And EMG is just using Molex 3 and 4 pin connectors, which any of us can buy and use. Mouser carries them, or you can get them on eBay.
c.thep
I wish all pickup manufacturers would adopt EMG's method of connectors, It's so simple, just slip the connector on and you're done. They would probably sell alot more pickups, since there is no worry of installation.
GodBlessTexas
I stopped by Fry's today and picked up everything I need to do this. The total cost for 10 male connectors, 10 female connectors, and 50 wire inserts for the female adapters was around $5.50 before tax, not counting the heat shrink to cover the wire to pin connections, which I already had. If I get a chance to get to it this weekend (BUSY!), I'll take some pics and make a writeup. BTW, this is a similar method to the EMG setups, but it's not exactly the same, as they were out of stock of the flat connectors that EMG uses. I'll have to order some from Mouser.
