100% Strip Down/custom Rebuild (eh...80% Is More Accurate)

Recommended Posts

So ive had a look-alike strat and a low cost ibanez rg series guitar for a few years now and i got into guitar modifications...and ill be working on both of these guitars soon

Plans:

strat

- new paint job - metallic blue to black sunburst, custom headstock logo with similar color scheme

- bridge position humbucker conversion (seymour duncan sh11b, 2 single coil custom EMG)

- white peraloid pickguard (modified for switches)

- custom wiring, switches for phasing and series/parallel

ibanez (my favorite mod concept!)

- new paint - black on white EVH style striping

- mount a custom wired 5 watt amplifier inside the guitar

- mount 2 speakers on the guitar (4 ohm series; one mid/full 3-4", one tweeter 2")

- mount within guitar custom wired distortion circuit (gain, vol,lo,mid,hi pots)

- concentric pots/knobs for pickup vol/tone and distortion vol/gain

- necessary switches for distortion/amp/power etc

- will be slightly heavy due to massive amounts of things'n'stuff in the guitar...but it was light to begin with and ill be routing out more wood to make big enough cavities for it

progress:....all the thinking is done lol, but im still open to suggestions...oh and ive sanded down the strat body for routing/painting

pictures to come...as well as links to schematics and stuff im using

You'll need an EMG PA-2 for the Duncan pickup, and a Pi2 if you want to put the middle pickup out-of-phase.

whats the advantage to using that pickup phasing switcher as opposed to just switching the polarity using a regular dpdt switch? i see theres a circuit board on there...so its definitely more advanced than just swapping the wires

it is due to the fact that you do not have access to the coil wires like you do on a reg passive pickup. the coil wires run to the preamp and you have positive and negative (9volt battery) and preamp output (hot) wires coming from the pickup. so you can see it is impossible to reverse the phase of it.

Very intrested in seeing how you do with this as im going to be putting a distortion circuit into my next project. Once the current projects finished. :D

so...if i just had the normal leads, one hot and one ground, from a single coil pickup the phase switch would be fine without the switch preamp deal

a passive pickup yes. the emg pi2 will only work with emg pickups according to their site

okay, well im not exactly sure what i have, but i know its a passive pickup, and the casing says EMG

the guitar was made by AXL and they say they have EMG-built custom pickups...?

they sound nice enough to keep a couple
