Briscriggs Posted April 10, 2007 Report Posted April 10, 2007 Just wondering instead of tinting laquer for the body of my guitar could I just use a minwax colured stain varnish let dry then start appling my clear coat of laquer? Quote
MiKro Posted April 10, 2007 Report Posted April 10, 2007 Haven't used Minwax in years. (crap in my opinion) But if it is still oil based, as they were years ago, then Lacquer will not adhere as you would like it too!!!!!! IF YOU GET MY DRIFT??? Use a good water based stain , then almost anything will work for a clear coat, Just my .02cents MK Quote
Vinny Posted April 10, 2007 Report Posted April 10, 2007 I gotta agree with Mikro, the water in the water based stain will evaporate. If you raise the grain in doing this, simply sand it back down. -Vinny Quote
