WezV
i would guess thats all done with tinted lacquer rather than any direct staining tbh, with the veneer you have you dont need to worry about enhancing any figure to get it to pop so tinted lacquer is a safer/easier option anyway. You just need to worry about not applying the tint so heavily that is blocks out figure. A couple of light coats of a rich amber/brown A few more coats of lightly tinted purple so you can build the burst slowly and subtley A coat of two of indigo/black tinted lacquer just bursted round the edges at the end Lots of clear

avengers63
for bear wood? Personally, I'm not having anything to do with a bear's wood. That's just..... I mean... NO! Bare wood, however, is just fine.

Xanthus
Looks nice! I don't think I would do a burst around the electronics/hardware, though. Because the top is so light I think the color of the hardware will make a nice contrast on its own. But the purple burst with the prominent grain of the top almost makes the thing look... veiny or muscular. Creepy, but in a good way! Traveler
nice build you have going here.....your mock up is interesting but consider how much of that fantastic quilt you will hide with that style of bursting.....keep up the nice work. Kenny
i love that idea for a color scheme however i dont like that last mockup you did, if you did a little looser burst (more purple) and got black hardware it would look awsome imo! vanisher16
that turned out really good how many coats did it take to get that burst too many..lol all in all i guess about 5+ with a coat ontop of that to touch it up/ even it out it want from a light almost watermellon color.. to purple... to deep purple (lots of blue in mixture) to black to darken up the edges.. so i guess it was a 4 stage burst.. i plan to put another coat of vintage amber( realy light coat) over it all to bring out the wood color.. and age it abit.. then off to clear it agaon thanks for all responces
