thanks to a amazing member of this site i now have a quilt maple top on her but i have a coulpe of questions

during the glueing stage i came across a few wrinkles in the veneer visibly there not too apparent but you deffinatly can feal them. whats the best way to get rid of them?

also can i do an oil finnish (because i have heard thats the best way to get that 3d quilt maple look ) and use nitro over it?

also where can i get nitro at the best price

thank u soo much for all those who have helped me already

this is the colors iv decided on but witha two stage burst from black to purple to natural..

can anyone tell if this is just a nitro finish or if its an oil finish?? cause i deffinately want my top to pop like this one

Very cool....if you can get that done it will really look hot.I like your taste in burst.Keep up the good work. It's not a oil finish.either nitro or poly.

i would guess thats all done with tinted lacquer rather than any direct staining

tbh, with the veneer you have you dont need to worry about enhancing any figure to get it to pop so tinted lacquer is a safer/easier option anyway. You just need to worry about not applying the tint so heavily that is blocks out figure.

A couple of light coats of a rich amber/brown

A few more coats of lightly tinted purple so you can build the burst slowly and subtley

A coat of two of indigo/black tinted lacquer just bursted round the edges at the end

Lots of clear

Hey, how is that thing going?Lets see a update...if you've had time to work on it.Looking good so far.

im realy excited i just got in the pearloid inlay and just waiting on my buddy to give me a hand to rout it out.

my buddy also got a deal with Musicians friend to get 20% off of what ever he orderd so i took advantage of that and sent away for the pick ups.. another Mic for the mesa and the capo iv had my eyes on!! i saved $54.. it made a cheep man happy lol

cant wait to get color on her!!

also when should i tend to the wrinkles in the veneer?? and whats the safest way to do it without damaging or coloring it?? is the spot baking method the best?? for bear wood?

Looks nice! I don't think I would do a burst around the electronics/hardware, though. Because the top is so light I think the color of the hardware will make a nice contrast on its own. But the purple burst with the prominent grain of the top almost makes the thing look... veiny or muscular. Creepy, but in a good way!

i love that idea for a color scheme

however i dont like that last mockup you did, if you did a little looser burst (more purple) and got black hardware it would look awsome imo!

i agree photo shop did the burs around the hard wear.. i defiantly will NOT be doing that also i will start of with a light honey color to enhance the wood color and grain then doing the purple and black burst.. im really shooting for the color i have shown on the musicman... hopefully i will be ordering the lacquer and lacquer die from stew mac some time this week and start coloring it next school vacation.. hopefully before if i can find the time.

thank you all for your support.. im truly a newbie at this wood finishing thing.. so i really appreciate all of the advice

that turned out really good

how many coats did it take to get that burst

too many..lol all in all i guess about 5+ with a coat ontop of that to touch it up/ even it out

it want from a light almost watermellon color.. to purple... to deep purple (lots of blue in mixture) to black to darken up the edges..

so i guess it was a 4 stage burst.. i plan to put another coat of vintage amber( realy light coat) over it all to bring out the wood color.. and age it abit.. then off to clear it

agaon thanks for all responces
