low end fuzz Posted February 24, 2008 Report Posted February 24, 2008 been looking around for these; ive seen them on the ritter basses, but who knows where he got those; i got 'guitar' ones from lmii , but even they had more of a brass look when they were polished up; no matter since i wouldnt use them on a bass; but the ritter bass is damn right sparkly, anyone see these thanx Quote
Prostheta Posted February 24, 2008 Report Posted February 24, 2008 Try the Bass Centre in the UK as they sell Warwick fretwire for refrets. Quote
Bmth Builder Posted February 24, 2008 Report Posted February 24, 2008 I am also looking for gold fret wire, I googles the bass center and couldnt find it on their website. Is there any where else in the UK that sales gold guitar fret wire? Preferably jumbo, or at least tall, Wormoth only has one size. LMI has a few, but still oversees. Quote
Prostheta Posted February 24, 2008 Report Posted February 24, 2008 Stop typing in Americanese Neil ;-D http://www.basscentre.com/ Quote
Prostheta Posted February 24, 2008 Report Posted February 24, 2008 Just checked their updated site - you may need to ring them to get the fretwire as it's not currently listed. I hope they stock it as I want some myself! Quote

Mattia Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 No such thing as 'bass frets'. Fretwire is fretwire. Size is whatever you like it to be. Quote
doug Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 +1 Just get the size you like. They make the best fretwire going. Jescar Gold frets don't have any gold in them nor any silver. They are more like a strange brass composition. Anyhooo, most of the places common to retail sales stock Jascar wire including LMII. Quote
soapbarstrat Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 They are more like a strange brass composition. Sure, if you want to call bronze a "strange brass composition". 15% Tin 1% Iron .1% Titanium And Copper making up the rest. I'm also tired of 'bass frets'. It makes me think of someone years ago, who didn't even play guitar or bass (like an "engineer" working for Fender) , just taking it for granted that everything on a bass is supposed to be bigger. Well then, on a Fender, why not a bigger neck plate, neck mounting screws, nut width, t-rod adjusting nut ? I consider the .038" high fret-wire I have to be the best wire for bass. There are players in the biz out there who like their bass frets even lower than that. What's the "Ritter bass frets look more gold" based on ? Internet photos, or you saw it in person ? I think if you were to totally nail the gold look (well, I don't think there's one certain Gold look), you would have to sacrifice durability. When I work with gold fret-wire in my workshop, under fluorescent lighting, it often hardly looks gold. But I had a customer show me a photo of him on stage with a bass I put gold frets on, and they couldn't have looked more gold. Quote

low end fuzz Posted February 26, 2008 Author Report Posted February 26, 2008 touche' on the wire is wire argument; buyt i got the only size they offer (i shouldve mentioned) and its too small; anywho, i'll check out that other site, thanx much Quote
Jon Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 LMI offers two sizes of fretwire, the second is quite tall, actually. I've got some set aside for my friends project and it looks very gold like for not being gold. Quote
doug Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 LMI stocks Jescar wire... Their general manager told me a while ago. You'll notice the description similarity too. -Doug Quote
Metallion Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 Are the LMI "FWG110 fretwire, gold ”Evo” alloy, 4 feet $10.85" Equal to guitarpartsresource's "DUNLOP 6180 BRASS FRETWIRE .038" tall and .85" wide", metal-wise? Or are there Other Dunlop 6100 sized Gold fretwire available? Quote
djhollowman Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 I have 18+ years of working for a jewellery company, and I handle various gold alloys every week. Believe me, you do not want frets made out of real gold! Gold coloured yes, real gold no. Just in case anyone is confusing things here! DJ Quote
soapbarstrat Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 Are the LMI... gold ”Evo” alloy... Equal to... DUNLOP... BRASS FRETWIRE... metal-wise? Hardly. I think we've been over this more than once. Quote
HuntinDoug Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 I just used some of the EVO "gold" from LMI last week for the first time: FW43080 .080" X .043 (2.03 X 1.09 mm). I prefer closer to a medium than a jumbo. Although this seemed a little too small for me. I love the color when it's polished up....We'll see how it wears I guess. pic: Quote
