anderekel
Ok, I finally got to work again, class was canceled last week, so I didn't get to do anything major then, but I had the wings glued on. So, this week I cut off that big chunk of wood at the bottom of it, so it's the basic shape it's supposed to be I also worked on shaping the heel (rather hard to do with the wings glued on, hehe) and then went over the whole neck with a cabinet scraper, it's lookin' and feelin' really good to me. I'm still gonna have to shape the heel a little more, bring it back a little, but it's goin' well overall Heel mostly shaped http://s194.photobucket.com/albums/z120/an...=IMG_0171_2.jpg whole neck after scraping http://s194.photobucket.com/albums/z120/an...=IMG_0172_2.jpg
anderekel
I sharpened my dad's old plane that he never uses and used it to plane my guitar flat today. The difference of the plane with a sharp blade (and a little practice) is phenominal, but now I want some planes more, gotta start hittin' up garage sales. killemall8
cool. great that you can actually use a plane. i cant figure out how the heck to use them or a spokeshave. it just hits the wood and gets stuck no matter how little i try to take off. anderekel
With the plane, if you angle it, like don't go straight on but turn it a little, it makes them work a lot easier. And take as little as you can off. But I'm not a pro or anything, I just got it workin' well today lol. The pictures on the left of this article should help, the article's good too. http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/article/0,,365995,00.html
Prostheta
Whoa, before you go cutting the headstock or drilling tuner locations, sketch on the string runs to make sure you're happy before you commit! You could quite easily get a straight string pull from nut to tuner with a bit of judicious tweaking :-D Looking good buddy.
anderekel
When I drew the headstock on I used the tuners as a guide and checked out the string pull, it should clear fine, I'm gonna check it again before I cut it just to make sure. Thanks for the concern

Is he drunk? http://www.expertvillage.com/video/15626_p...planer-uses.htm Seriously though - how much does this dude need to lose a finger to advertise what-not-to-do? Anyway. Go Joe!! anderekel
I just some of those, wow, I think he's high no drunk, judging by the way he's talking. I love how he doesn't have the board clamped at all, so he has to hold it with one hand while trying to use the smoothing plane. Oh well....... Oh, and he's supposed to be a master carpenter with over 20 years experience? One more edit lol Prostheta, I take it you're a Lovecraft fan? anderekel
I'm not one to take a spokeshave reccomendation, I've only used the one I just bought lol. It's a veritas low angle one if you're curious. The fretboard is cocobolo.
RFR
I got some more done tonight. First thing I did is to draw out the headstock. It took a while to get it how I liked it, but I'm happy with how it's gonna look, and I did set the tuners on and make sure it'll all fit right and everything, so no problems there. Then I cut the back off the neck off, excess that is. And finally, I got the neck rough shaped, it's not perfectly straight (slightly bumpy), but it should be able to sand out well. I did get to use my new spokeshave, got the veritas low angle one, and I really liked it, I still need some practice with it, but it was really easy to use. Pictures of the shaped neck http://s194.photobucket.com/albums/z120/an...=DSC01052_2.jpg http://s194.photobucket.com/albums/z120/an...=DSC01053_2.jpg http://s194.photobucket.com/albums/z120/an...=DSC01054_2.jpg Just curious, where did you get the idea for the headstock? I have been making that design since 1980. you can see some examples on my website. If you came you with it on your own you have EXCELLENT taste! anderekel
Really? I used a prs template for the body then modified it. So I just drew something similar to a prs headstock but different off the top of my head with tuner's so I didn't make it off. I just looked and it is really close, wow lol Great minds I guess Edited May 5, 2008 by anderekel

anderekel
An update, well, sorta, an update of why there have been no updates lol. I moved out of my parents about two and a half months ago. I no longer have the disposable income to buy guitar stuff, including the router bit I need also no time to work on it, I'm actually supposed to be installing a garbage disposal/fixing the shower faucet/cleaning the dishes/cleaning the backroom..... anyway, just thought I'd let any who may have been wondering know what's goin' on and why nothin' has been done on this, hopefully soon I'll have some extra income, parents are hopefully gonna cover my rent and utilities so I can be called a dependant so I can stay on their insurance
