Xanthus Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 The title says it all, really. Here's a pic. http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics,_p...es.html#details On the right side, on the top, there's a strange gold tab sticking up. I have absolutely no clue what that is, hahaha. Is it to prevent the pot from spinning? To ensure that the pot is touching the shielding? I need to rewire my build, so I bought a few extra pots, but I dunno if there's anything special associated with them or not. Quote
avengers63 Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 It looks to me like a depth stop. I'd suggest that if the body of the pot were clamped hard against the cavity or pickguard, it might interfere with the free movement of the post. Or not. It's just a guess. Quote
WezV Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 most pots have the tabs.. you can just snap them off, bend them back or drill a hole for them to go into--- up to you Quote

Thoughtless 7 Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 On effects pedals you can drill a hole for it to go in/through so it keeps the pot straight when screwing the nut on. Quote
bluesy Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 It's meant to fit into a hole in the panel that it's mounted on. It's purpose is to prevent the pot turning and shorting something out, even if the main nut get's a bit loose. It can be cut off or just bent out of the way if you don't want to use it. Quote
