Buzzedd
Hello all, does anyone know how you repair a fretboard inlay that is cracked from installing the frets? I'm talking about an inlay that runs across one fret to another. See the pic below. The pic isn't the actual crack, it's not nearly that big, but i'm sure you get the idea. Let me know what the best idea to repair this is, i'm guessing superglue is involved in some way. Bill ]
killemall8
I really dotn think there is much you can do... I guess you could fill it with superglue then polish it back out. But nothing really beyond that.
Bionic Dave
I would get some mop and a file make some dust add to crack then super glue it. Then sand and polish.
WezV
MOP dust is nothing like MOP. so filling with MOP dust and superglue will give you a noticeably non reflective white line. But that might be fine if the crack is small
John Abbett
Bust it out and make another. -J
ihocky2
I would need to see the crack before offering advice. A hairline MIGHT be able to be cleaned up with some dust and glue, but is not a choice method. If the crack is that noticeable, I would remove that section of inlay and start from scratch. cSuttle
Route it out and put in a new piece. And, be more careful next time. Don't hammer in the frets, use a fret press.
Glenn Hutchinson
No matter what you fill that crack with it's always going to be there. If you go ahead and finish the guitar you will look for it all the time and say I wish I had fixed that. Now's the best time to do it and it wont take that long. It looks like a simple piece to make so I would take it out and try again. Good luck Hutchinson Inlay
