User01
Awesome! Thanks alot for the help! I normally use a rasp for carving aswell, so far so good! But i just wanna see how good that tool would be. Would i use a flat blade or a convex blade for carving my stomach contours/(SG Style) Bevels? Thanks
Woodenspoke
First the Ibex comes in all shapes curved and flat, and different sizes. That looks like a big one in the picture. The petered plane for carving tops. Depends on what you want to do with it will determine the size and shape. Bigger is not always better with these planes and guitars, the expensive 89mm is way too big and expensive. If you are unsure I know there are threads showing them as I have posted pictures before. Try this thread http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.ph...768&hl=ibex Also you can find it cheaper than Stumac $40-$60. http://www.google.com/products?q=ibex+plan...mp;lnk=showlist
oblaty
I´ve got one. It´s 40mm with convex blade and it´s great. It is usefull when you are making carved tops, you can also carve the back of the neck with it. Looks like it´s too small, but trust me that if you have it sharp enough, it´s perfect. Johnny Foreigner
let me reiterate my last post on the referenced thread: the ibex planes are AMAZING for top carving. worth the money.
Musiclogic
agreed...I have a set of 7 Ibex finger planes I use for doing violins and Cellos, nice planes, and the Steels hold an edge fantastically.
