Curtis P
The solo from CRAZY TRAIN by Ozzy, and performed by RANDY RHOADS, its tapping, pulloffs, and maybe hammer ons? i got the tablature from ORIGINAL RANDY RHOADS book, but, i do not know where to tap, i was supposed to learn from my friend's dad, but he does not have the timer to teach me Curtis
westhemann
in the tab the tapped note is underscored with a (t)
Curtis P
yes, but do you tap on a diffrent fret? or that fret? Curtis
westhemann
that fret
Curtis P
ok thanks man, wonderin why it sounded horrible Curtis
westhemann
actually technically it is behind the fret,as with any note you play, but i am sure you know that
westhemann
keep in mind the whole idea behind tapping is just to use your right hand as extra fretting fingers,so you are just fretting notes really, but instead of picking, the right hand finger is tapped hard enough to vibrate without picking. Curtis P
ok, so i use my right hand, hit the fret you tap, and pull off the other notes, correct? Curtis
westhemann
correct...but to be technical,it is behind the fret
westhemann
keep in mind when you pull off the tapped note you need to slide your hand slightly sideways off the string...do not just go straight up
Curtis P
what do you mean sideways? almost like a bend? Curtis
westhemann
no...the proper way to pull off is to slide your finger off the side of the string.this makes it snap out from under your finger and results in a clearer note
Curtis P
ohh, ok, gotcha now, thanks wes Curtis
canuckguitarist
didn't I hear something about Randy Rhoads taps the first note twice on that solo or something?
wylde1919
CANUCK-yeah he tapped the first note of each arpeggio twice in that solo. also if you are going to play the solo on a non trem guitar like a paul. there is a section where he is trilling a minor third ( i believe) and goes down a minor third with the trem bar. You can achieve this easily by tapping the trill and then repeating the pattern a minor third down. BTW IMO its the greatest solo ever written ( not the technically hardest or the most melodic, it just fits the song better than I've ever heard a guitar solo fit a song. It's the reson I play guitar)
MikeB
when tapping like wes said slide finger to the side, like a pull off.

Curtis P
Thanks for the help, i can do the tapping awesome now, but, right after the tapping, i think the tappin part, is it: 9h12 9h12 9h12 9h12 8h11 8h11 8h11 8h11 7h10 7h10 7h10 7h10? this is on the A string (second thinnest) Thanks alot guys Curtis
soapbarstrat
Isn't there one little part where it works better to tap with your guitar pick held sideways ? I remember doing something like that when I used to play it. It's a real fast tapping part, where the string is being bent, while the tapping is going on. Maybe I'm thinking of another song ? I got this great "note for note" cassette tape I bought in the 80's that teaches all the Randy Rhoads solos. It's very accurate. 'Rock performers method', or something like that. soapbarstrat
Never mind, I think I was thinking of the solo for " I don't know".

canuckguitarist
I think I play it 4 times. But I might be wrong 'cause it was surprisingly hard to count how many times I played something, while playing it.
