SwedishLuthier
This was dubbed "the Oldy Moldy" by its owner The neck is three pieces of oiled walnut with thin laminates of flamed maple and graphite between. Besides the fact that it makes the neck incredible strong it is a joy to look at. The body is Alder to save weight, to enhance the upper mid and to eliminate a bit of muddiness that can appear with high output pickup/mahogany combos. It also makes the guitar a bit more responsive to the picking style and more dynamic sounding. The top is a beautiful piece of spalted maple that the customer spotted and required that it should be used (and I was perfectly fine with that, it was a wonderful piece of wood). As most people claim that spalted maple cannot be used for an arched top I just had to do it. Did it work? Well have a look at the pictures! The same spalted maple was used as a headstock topper and for the cover for the electronics cavity. The inlay idea origines from an old Inca painting the customer had spotted and is said to be some type if Phoenix-like legend. Everything was finished in semi gloss to preserve that "woody" feeling. Boggs
I don't remember if I had entered this one before but it is one of my favorites. It's my cocobolo and chambered Cuban mahogany RockBeach CamelBack CB-II... I am posting one picture and 3 video links the first of which explains some of the design features (and is the longest one) and the other two are strictly different styles of music demoed on it all by a friend, Dave Duncan, showing that it is much more than a show piece! The pickups are Vintage Vibe custom wound blade singles that have interchangable magnets. Alnico5 magnets give great drive, tight bass, and excellent string articulation and are in them for the demos. It also comes with Alnico2 and ceramic magnet sets for warmer tone and more vintage tones respectively. Anyway, here is the photo and the video links... NotYou
This is the "Lupin". For the first time ever, I'm submitting a guitar that isn't distressed. I wanted this guitar to look organic and handmade. The finish is extremely thin and is hardy noticeable and the pewter hardware was all made by hand. My goal was to make it comfortable to hold and play, and to feel totally natural. The pewter really helped with the handmade folk-arty look. This is my favorite sounding guitar too. It's noticeably woody and the sound matches the "organic" look and feel of the guitar nicely. J_48_Johnson
"Sensei" I built this guitar for my Nephew as a Christmas present. He chose the body design he wanted, so I used a Reverend Guitar Sensei picture as a template. He came up with a headstock design by looking at pictures of headstocks. He chose a PRS as what he wanted. I changed it up a little bit, offsetting it a tad. He wanted a warm sounding guitar and it does not disappoint. It is warm and smooth and is hard to get into any distortion. I have a lot of time in this, I sure hope he likes it. I guess Christmas morning I'll find out... 5 pc. maple neck chambered body for weight reduction Stratocaster wiring w/5 way switch Build thread: http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=43970 All gold hardware ResoMax NVS T.O.M. Brian
Posted for member Ali Kat The Ali Kat Rockabilly Kustom For nearly 30 years I have been involved with the Rockabilly and Rock N Roll scene, both as a Rockabilly DJ and a Photographer. By trade I am a sheet metal worker, working in all metals, I have many welding codes including Nuclear welding to 100% x ray standard.I have always wanted to make an all aluminium double bass, and finally got to do so in September this year and just recently finished a second oriental themed double bass. However the Key instrument in any Rockabilly band has to be the Guitar, and those Kool Rockabilly , Brian Setzer riffs we all wish we could play. So not satisfied with just making the bass, I wanted to make a guitar that said Rockabilly both in looks and in sound, and I believe I have achieved that, and to see it being played (as i don`t play) is really something, a proud moment each time some one plays it. Hope you enjoy looking at is as much as I do.. you can hear and see it being played on www.alikat.com.au The Body has been cut, welded and sanded by hand from 2mm Aluminium, The effect has been done with a sander, then a coloured lacquer added before clear coating. and finally pinstriped by hand, another symbol of the rockabilly kustom kulture scene. As is the 1950s pin up pick guard. The neck is maple, with a Rosewood Fingerboard. 624mm scale length. 22 Frets. Medium fretwire used. The pickups are GPA Memphis Specials.(Made by Guitar Parts Australia) NOT GFS Memphis pickups. They are alnico V pickups. Neck pickup is7.93K Ohms and bridge pickup is 8.48K. The pots are 500k Ohm GPA pots. Bridge and Tailpiece have been sourced through GPA. I have experimented with light and medium strings, the light strings produced the best acoustic nlues sound, so good I am in the process of finishing an Ali Kat Acoustic Blues guitar.
