wolfman6
Would anyone be able to ID this wood?
Prostheta
Difficult under all that sealer. Anything else to go on other than a photo? Could be Alder. Is it light? Soft?
killemall8
Looks like alder to me.

WezV
its definitely alder, both because of how it looks and the history of the instrument
wolfman6
Cool, does alder require the grain to be sealed?
Prostheta
It is generally not filled as it is a pretty closed pore structure however all woods benefit from sealing if you are after a smooth finish. It just allows for a far more predictable substrate for primer/paint to adhere.
