Devon Headen
I have two guitars with poly finishes that are fairly dented. One's a clear acoustic, and one's a black electric. I know I probably can't use the lacquer touch up sticks with lacquer melt, so what can I use to repair them? thanks, Devon

Devon Headen
Care to elaborate? Devon
Brian
Drip Hot Glue (CA) onto the area that needs repair and let dry. Then lightly sand if needed and buff.
LGM Guitars
Hot glue? I wouldn't use hotglue on anything, CA is instant glue, drip it in, let it cure, and sand and polish it out.
westhemann
ca glue is sold in large amounts under the name "hot stuff" that is what brian is reffering to
LGM Guitars
Hot stuff is a really bad brand of CA unfortunately, I use tons of CA in the RC modelling world, Pacer technologies ZAP brand is the best you can buy, there is also a brand called Flash which is the exact same formula as ZAP, but half the price. Devon Headen
Thanks, I've heard of Hot stuff from the Guitar Player's Guitar Repair book by Dan Erlewine. I'll try some of that other stuff. Is it possible to color the glue so that it will match the rest of the body? I realize it's clear, but in one spot on my LP (foreign made with poly finish), right near the output jack the previous owner dropped it and it chipped all the way down to the primer. LGM Guitars
No, you can't color the glue, CA glue cures with moisture, add anything into it and it becomes useless, paint the chip first, then fill it with the glue and sand and polish it out. Devon Headen
Good Deal...I thought it was through to the primer, but when I just went and looked at it, it's not. I guess I dreamed that up. Can you steam out dents with an iron like nitro? Devon
MzI
is there any reason why you cant touch up with more poly even if its a 1 part poly?? MzI
frank falbo
If you use the thin CA it will suck its way into the little cracks and cloudy areas where the poly has lifted. Poly won't do that. CA is the way to make cracks sort of disappear.
Brian
What they said and Yes Wes down here they are all the same to me, then again it's been a real long time since I even needed any
