john
Any of you ppl here own one ,and what do you think of them? I basically wanna know if my guitar has potential for modding? squier fat strat standard series 1999 'crafted in china' i wanno do the following: make a new neck with an ebony compound radius board. get new scratchplate because the one thats on it was badly cut, the 1st string completely misses the polepiece on the neck pickup .... New pickups, wanna get that evh sound if possible, any suggestions??? i wanna remove one of the tone knobs and do something 'else' with it. The trem, nut, and tuners will need to be changed.....(for some stability!) so finally , will it be worth it? also, does anyone know for sure what wood is the body made from? some say agathis, some say alder...... i dunno would pics help? thanks, john. Biblical
modding a Squire is a cool idea, they are cheap and mistakes dont matter to much and you can make it sound loads better. get some of the Dimarzio EVH pickups. they sound quite cool. weezerboy
surely if the guitar ends up as a dud at least you gained experience and its not like hardware can't be reused
feylya
You could do as my mate did, and make an EVH 5150 copy from an old strat body he had lying around. Don't have a picture cos that forum is down at the moment.
theQuestioneer
yeah i modded mine. a lot of fun, twas my 1st project. mine was made out of this plywood-like alder laminate. pure crap. i changed it to H-strat size H - H, used each knob as a seperate volume pot and on/off push/pull; ditched tone. Kevan
A couple of weeks ago, I picked up a $149 GC-special (their anniversary sale that week) Squire. "Crafted in China"...heh heh....yeah. Ok. Anyway, it's a test guitar for the Tremol-No. Though the Tremol-No requires no modifications to a guitar, I wanted to have a test guitar to show folks how it works on non-Ibanez trems, esp. those tone-less, skinny bietch blocks Fender puts in the Squires (most sold guitar in the US, BTW). For a 1st timer or novice, these are a great way to practice your luthierie and wiring skills. I'm sure pros use them to test out new designs and ideas as well. As Weezerboy said, even if you do an "Aluminator" style to the body, the hardware will still be good. :-)
