nsherman2006 Posted March 28, 2004 Report Posted March 28, 2004 Is there any other way (other than using a heat gun) to get a burnt finish like the one on the jem bsb. I don't have an electric heat gun and dont feel like paying 30 bucks if there is a cheaper way to do it. Has anyone on this board ever done it without the gun. If so, how? Please note that i am a little wary of anything that could go seriously awry and burn up the body. How dangerous would it be to take a flammable liquid and a lighter? Thanks for any help. Neal Quote
jbkim Posted March 28, 2004 Report Posted March 28, 2004 I've done it with a propane torch before. I'd guess that'd be cheaper if you already have one... but be VERY careful with it. A heat gun is only $30? That doesn't sound like too much, for a safer method, I guess. Quote
Drak Posted March 28, 2004 Report Posted March 28, 2004 Torch will work, but man, you gotta keep movin' that buzzard fast. Try to get the wide-angle tip, too, you don't want a pencil point flame, it's too narrow. Heat gun probably best, tho, but you have to keep that moving, too. Quote
Brian Posted March 29, 2004 Report Posted March 29, 2004 I saw a demo on a Desert Yellow Jem once where they just poured lighter fluid on it and set the sucker on fire man what were they thinking Quote
nsherman2006 Posted March 29, 2004 Author Report Posted March 29, 2004 I put this on jemsite and someone said that they did it with just a bic lighter with some sucess. Any thoughts on this? I think it would take a while, but it might work pretty well. Neal. Quote
Curtis P Posted March 30, 2004 Report Posted March 30, 2004 heat gun, if its only 30 bucks its well worth it, plus you can melt other things!!! Curtis Quote
darren wilson Posted March 30, 2004 Report Posted March 30, 2004 Probably all you'll get with a Bic lighter is a layer of soot on the guitar. Quote
