pearl edges

your probably asked this alot put i searched and couldnt find anything,

many guitars i see have pearl of somthing similar around the edge of them, i was wondering how this is done.

do you mean binding? im not sure how to do it myself but i believe its done by laminating a few layers of what you want around the edges to the body or by inlaying it into the body but i dont know, havent ever looked into it yet, prolly should tough...

That looks like a purlfing (sp) coupled with a cream binding. The multicolored stuff is usually broken up into small pieces to inlay properly as it wont bend very well. I think thats whats going on there.
