  5. i am just north west of Toronto in a crappy town called Peterborough, i hate living in the city, i liked living in Cavan way better I will definetly check out the Duncan distortions a bit more!! Curtis
  6. when i was at school we we just used a little jimmy rigged box that the wood sat on, so it pretended to be thicker then it actually was Curtis
  7. the distortion on that was pretty good, not as heavy as i would like, but still pretty good concidering them... Curtis
  8. here, do it like this, i think it will look good http://www.guitarhangar.com/guitars/images...onrrltd174a.jpg Curtis
  9. the bridge- 70 wood -100 (got the body for free) tuning machines-about 100 ferreules-12 fret wire-32 pickups-220 screws-20 electronics-30 other hardware- 40 glue-12 finishing 100(nott even) cavity covers- 12 nut-2 total $756.00 anything i forgot? ← yea, tools, you will inevitably have to buy some sort of special tool whether it be a router, chisels, router bits (they are exspensive) you said you were using mahogany with a strip of wenge down the middle, whats going to happen when you "god forbid" the router catches the wood and tears a nice big hunk out? you either need to cap it, or get a new body. anyways, I am just saying always brace yourself for the worst that can happen think slow, think carefully, take lots of pictures Curtis
  10. Hmm, very interesting, the spec page just says the body is "solid" it doesnt say what wood it is made of..... anywho, i just got back from playin it, after playin around with trying to get close to "randy's" tone, my tone went from good to really good, so i am very pleased with myself What would be a good combination of EMG's?? i was thinking 81/85 since i know alot of people on here use that combo... Curtis
  11. check out the behringer V-ampire for the money it sounds quite good also, i use a Peavey Bandit 112, with a boss hm-2 pedal, and i can get some pretty convincing tones out of it, and i play metal/rock Curtis
  12. With a soldering iron? That ain't right.... ← penetration also means, in welding terms, where the 2 metals have fused together really well and on the back side of the metal you can see the "penetration" marks If i remeber correctly and depending on your bridge, if you where like, 0.5 mm out, your bridge intonation might be able to compensate for it Curtis
  13. Thank you very much Haggardguy Curtis
  14. 1)depends on the pickup cover, take the picup out from the guitar and figure it out, its not too hard to figure some stuff out on your own 2)i am not sure what you mean on this question, but i think your saying if the neck is made for a 25.5" scale and your body was set up for a 24.75" scale what would happen if you still played on it?? well, it wouldnt intonate, so it would sound like garbage 3)very carefully heat the prong of the pot and attach the lead to it with solder, too much heat will ruin your pot, not enough heat and you wont get proper penetration (is that the word i want?) 4)i dont have a "favorite" guitarist per se, but, i enjoy listening to Kerry King, Randy Rhoads, Nuno Bettencourt, Kirk Hammet, Steve Vai, etc.... Good Luck Curtis
  15. that was cool!! i just learned a few new licks!! Curtis
  16. Well, heres my Review on the guitar Slammer by Hamer let me start off with a few things, I bought this guitar for myself on my birthday, i traded my Washburn strat copy and some cash for it, so i bought the guitar for a little bit more then 275 plus my Washburn. Now, the review, this guitar has a fast neck, faster then my washburn, but, it has the "heel from hell" on it, so that makes upper fret access slightly difficult. The electronics are O.K. for now, but i will be swapping them for some EMG's later on One downfall on the electronics is that they are very "ringy" while playing clean, you have to roll back on the tone knob a little to get the ring out The nut is not properly slotted, i have to widen the high e string slot a little bit The truss rod does not rattle, but i havent done a string change so i cant check out the route yet by pullin on the truss rod cover Body is 3 peices of what appears to be mahogany with a 1 peice maple neck and it is scarf jointed The finish is, on a scale of 1 to 10, i give it about a 9, you can see a little bit of wood filler on the end grain, and there is a small blemish where it looks like it was bumped into something while still wet The sound, it sounds pretty good through my Peavey Bandit, and my Boss HM-2 pedal, i had to tweak my EQ a little bit to make i sound "good" but it will sound way better with the EMG's in it Frets, cant complain, they did a good job on the frets, no over hang, no buzzing Tuning pegs and Bridge, just low budget ones, but they do the job well, it stays in tune pretty good, except for the high e, but that is because of the nut In conclusion, this guitar is perfect for the money, it came with a 5 year warranty on everything (neck, body, frets, electronics, hardware, everything) it also came with a patch cord, about 5 picks of different guages and some cheap strap locks, but they do the job fine Heres some teaser pictures: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v314/cur.../NewGuitar7.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v314/cur...s/NewGuitar.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v314/cur...NewGuitar11.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v314/cur.../NewGuitar3.jpg Curtis
  17. alright, after work i will give it a try Curtis
  18. thanks everyone for the replies, thats what i figured it would be, I actually find the nut height to be pretty decent on this guitar, the action is great, so i dont think i will bother with the nut height for now When i go to the music shop to grab some more strings, i will take in the nut and have them file it a bit more for me Thanks Curtis
  19. Well, for my birthday (July 26) i bought a new guitar, i havent had a chance to really post yet because of internet problems. Anyways, i bought a brand new Slammer by Hamer, its an explorer shape guitar, When i tune the High E string, i hear a light cracking noise, i am not sure if the nut is not filled enough for the larger strings and its pulling on the nut or what, but its rather disturbing and it does not stay in tune well.... Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated Edit, forgot to include some pics of the new "beast" http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v314/cur.../NewGuitar3.jpg just 2 for now, its taking forever on photobucket to upload tonight, so, maybe more tommorow Curtis
