  1. heres my next project. a carved top rg-sh style guitar. specs solid african mahogany with carved top curly maple neck with ken lawrence headstock 24 fret 24.75 scale set neck duel hums rear routed electronics what should i do for a finish? i like natural, but this mahogany is a bit boring, any ideas http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb262/k...project2002.jpg http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb262/k...project2003.jpg
  2. http://s206.photobucket.com/albums/bb262/k...urrent=esp7.jpg http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb262/k...l_luie/esp4.jpg
  3. just because they are so thin, and the seller lives in canada and processes his own wood.
  4. i will be using the black keystone tuners. they are in a post on the last page somewhere. i will be using a white bone nut. everything is all done except for the nut. whew. gtom entry? probably not
  5. the nut is not placed, so the strings are just lying on the fretboard unevenly. the big string where the high e should be is an A string. i just used it to see how it lined up, but it moved before i took the pic because i moved it to my bed. all lines up great and plays well.
  6. better pic of the back http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb262/k...aindles2003.jpg
  7. well if you seal it again, then the stain wont stain.
  8. here it is staind. believe it or not, it looks like dark zebrawood in the light. my stupid camera never captures the real beauty of the wood. http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb262/k...dlespaul004.jpg http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb262/k...dlespaul002.jpg http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb262/k...dlespaul001.jpg
  9. 2 things. template template router bit.
  10. sorry, forgot to answer that earlier. nope diddnt use any setpins. the fretboard was 4 inches wide uncut, so it was huge. i just applied glue, and rubbed together for a while, and it stuck perfect. thanks for the kind words.
  11. neck basicly finished. just finish sanding and clean up the scarf a bit. http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb262/k...eckbuild004.jpg http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb262/k...eckbuild003.jpg http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb262/k...eckbuild002.jpg no matter what i do, i cant get a good pic of the fretboard. it looks awesome in person.
  12. i used 7 clamps. i just took the picture inbetween. came out perfect
  13. Finally got my stupid fretboard after 2 and a half weeks wich was supposed to be 2-3 day mail. ERR! but o well its definitly a nice piece of cocobolo. pre slotted at a 24.75" scale. here is it being clamped to the neck http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb262/k...dandneck002.jpg
  14. anyone have any expierence with non radiused fretboards? i have seen a couple on here but it is imposible to search for with those keywords. any benifits or drawbacks?
  15. the white part is the sanding sealer. i have re-done 11 jacksons, and they all have had sanding sealer on them. the js 20 is the cheapest lowest model jackson makes, but is still a decent guitar. indian cedro is a great wood. i love the way it sounds. and yes, try to keep as much of the paint as possible on the guitar. what color are you planning on painting it? because that influences what color of primer you should use.
  16. well, out of those 2 options, neither of those are actually grain fillers. those are just wood putty to repair holes or gouges. i wouldnt used that for grain filler. and it also depends wether you are staining to a trans black, or using tinted paint to achieve a trans black
  17. just a body im working on. has super thin black diamond plate. the wood showing on the sides is the bevels.
  18. i agree what glue did u use? I used high grade wood glue, not very different to titebond ( it even smells the same) I used plenty of glue, and i have always used that brand of glue and this is the first time this happens will it stop moving?? or with it get totally effed up?? actually it looks like the paint is shrinking around the glue joints. that happened to a couple of my builds. for a while you couldnt see it but a few days later you could see the glue lines.
  19. with a stop tailpiece, it would be just a little less. and yes at the back of the saddles.
  20. i have never seen a truss rod like this, it came out of jackson rhoads http://s206.photobucket.com/albums/bb262/k...russrods004.jpg http://s206.photobucket.com/albums/bb262/k...russrods005.jpg http://s206.photobucket.com/albums/bb262/k...russrods003.jpg
  21. it wont have as good sustain as string thru, but it is still good. the strings go thru on the back, on the same side as the springs
  22. well i hate fender more than anything, and jackson is my favorite brand. they have only put out 2 new jackson models since the buyout. the js30 series and the new RR24. the js series is the cheapest of the jacksons, but by far the best cheap guitar you can get. i have not played the new rhoads RR24 though. and the custom shop is still the same, so that doesnt change much.
  23. well i dont think you guys are getting it. i diddnt try to make a cool looking paint job. i was just refinishing it and it had been left outside so the wood is a bit uneven, so when i sanded, it sanded unevenly. i diddnt do this purposely, i just thought it looked cool in the process. its already primered up now. but once again, i wasnt trying to do a swirl, i was just using swirl as a reference
