  1. Cool, thanks for the reply. Here are some of each.
  2. Cool. Does he do finishes from scratch? Or do you have to send it to him with a base?
  3. I thought for sure that V would get some love. Question, Anybody know if tru oil will work on top of danish oil? the V still looks kinda splotchy because of the type of grain redwood has.
  4. Looks like some nice work. Not crazy about the shape, but looks well done. How do you get mike learn to spray your guitars?
  5. I have done quite a few in the past. It has been a long time though. Mainly because i gave up on strat style guitars.
  6. Where did you get the clear primer? been looking for that stuff for years.
  7. Thank you sir. I also got work done on the neck blank for the carved top. Got the truss rod channel routed. Gluing up the ears tomorrow morning. I also picked up a seymour duncan full shred for the bridge. Should be a pretty nice combo.
  8. That is looking pretty good. Should be an awesome guitar.
  9. FULL ALBUM : http://s1105.photobucket.com/user/KEA1983/library/Burl%20SUPA%20strat?sort=3&page=1
  10. Ok, So, The burl veneer is no more. I attempted to sand it down again and it got way too transparent. So i had to sand it down. Good thing it was over that super nice grained mahogany. It is still looking good.
  11. That is a good idea. I was just thinking about doing something almost exactly like that.
  12. Yessir, will give it a small amount of room all the way around. Might have some duncans coming too, so we shall see which one i decide to go with. I got the neck glued up and scarf cut. I glued the scarf accent tonight as well. I always do it in 2 steps. So tomorrow i will glue the headstock part of scarf to the rest. Then it should move pretty fast. I also re sprayed the spalted etimoe from way back when tonight. Came out pretty nice so far. Hopefully it dries ok.
  13. There it is. I remember seeing it a long time ago but couldnt find it.
  14. That is pretty much what i figured. I guess when you are that successful though, it isnt that big of a deal to pay that much for wood. I would have a very hard time not cutting up those big blanks for strips to use as multi lam necks, instead of using the whole blanks for 1 neck.
  15. That is some awesome looking cocobolo. Where do you get your woods? I cant even find decent exotic woods without paying insane amounts. I am doomed to using veneer and plain mahogany for my whole career.
  16. Yes sir, I really wanted it to be a little over the top. I am going to wait until i have either another EMG on hand or a SD pickup, so i can make the rout with extremely tight tolerances. I dont like direct mounting pickups, but it was my only option. This is made from that same insane striped mahogany, i just didnt wet it for the pictures.
  17. The paste grainfiller never seems to work for me. Here is another SS i am working on. This is pretty much the final shape i have fine tuned for my SS guitars. IT has a little bit more aggressive upper horn and wider lower cutaway. Super deep carve on a thin body. And the 7 piece neck. Maple, mahogany, maple veneer, and paduak. Picture is BEFORE i glued it.
  18. I have tried that one a couple before. I always had trouble because it dries so dang hard, and it is hard to apply it even. I used it on the redwood burl EXP i had made a few months ago. But if you get just 1 sand through, then it never matches. That is what happened, and i had to sand it all back off again. That is why i am going to look into the 2 part epoxy coatings for tables and stuff. Supposed to pour and level itself to a perfectly flat, smooth finish on its own.
  19. Yeah, i had taken a look at that stuff. I was wanted to try it, but again, the hazards scare me. I think i am going to look into pourable epoxy made for granite and other table stuff. that will at least seal and give me a nice surface on figured woods. I see a lot of gibsons like that. The custom shop gibsons seem to have it the worst for some reason. I just always thought that if it wasnt absolutely immaculate then it wasnt acceptable in the custom guitar world. Maybe i have unrealistic expectations.
