  1. Funny you should say that the other project is an Axis... My headstocks never make sense until the guitar is done. Even then some people hate them. Yes I am shooting for very light weight but still balanced. The limba neck is really light and it is allowing me to do some things I can't usually get away with. We will see when I am building a maple neck... One thing that has made the guitars inconsistent in the final weight are the exotic tops. Bloodwood, Ziricote, Maple, Soft Maple, etc... all have very different weights. It feels weird picking up a guitar so thin that is normal guitar weight. So I want them to be consistently light. Chambering is the answer. I plan to chart all the weights next year to create a matrix of how much chambering for the different tops/backs. I am going to put the P90 in a nickel humbucker cover. However they are not done yet so I used dumby pickups. I don't have any sound clips because my customers are lazy. They promise sound clips but never send them to me... I guess if you want something done... See what Bob123 said. I modified a socket by thinning the sides and grinding the face flat. Then polished the crap out of it... I will post some pictures of how to make one without a lathe when I get some time. The washer and nut must be a differn size on yours then. On the hipshot tuners i used, the nut and washer have the exact same diameter, so there is no way you are getting anything between the nut and the hole they are recessed into. The needle nose pliars are the only thing i found to work, but even with extreme care they still scuff up black finishes.
  2. How do you tigthen the tuner nuts, when they are recessed like that? I did that on my recent guitar because they werent long enough, but now i cant tighten them.
  3. Yes.Why wouldn't you? It is just another fret.No reason for it to be different from all the others.Only reason you cut a nut higher is to give it a little room for wear before having to replace the nut. Think about it like this...What happens when you use a capo? The fret in front of the capo becomes the "nut"...same exact thing here. The whole "slightly larger zero fret" is only going on the theory that in time the strings will cut a groove in the zero fret faster than the others because of the constant pressure, but I feel like at that point you need a fret redressing anyway.Of course, this is my first zero fret...I think I like it though...the open tone is just like the fretted tone...it sounds smoother and open chords seem better tuned I have had to explain that to so many people. I used to used a zero fret on everything. Its no different than having a capo at the first fret.
  4. Definitely think you should have hit that with grey primer before you shot the color.
  5. I have been using those GFS locking tuners since they came out. They are great. I actually prefer them over the hipshot locking tuners.
  6. I can see that happening. That thing looks like a guthook on a knife.
  7. Haha, i know exactly how that is. A few times i actually wore though the skin on my fingers from feeling if it was smooth enough. I kept seeing red smears everywhere and i couldnt tell what it was from.
  8. In my experiences, Linseed oil doesnt seal dye enough. Even with 5+ coats, it still wore through the dye in a few days.
  9. Nver nice work! I really like the neck joint carve and bevel around it. Looks very crisp.
  10. Oh, alrighty. Makes sense then! Thanks guys. I'll get a sound sample of this tomorrow. I have been really busy teh past few days.
  11. I tried that, the only things that pop up are "back to top" "report" and "quote" and "multi quote".
  12. I havnt seen it yet, where is the Edit button?
  13. HS, Yes, this time it was elk. Before that i had antelope and deer. Haha, you would be surprised wes. we have a ton of differnet big game animals here. Deer (3 types, Mule, Whitetail, and couse whitetail) Elk Bear Ibex Oryx Barbary sheep Rocky mountain bighorn sheep Desert bighorn sheep Himalayan Tahr Lots to hunt Thanks Mike! A lease is going to be awesome! Here in NM its pretty much all public land.
  14. No worries John. It was actually my dad's hunt, i just went with him to help pack it out if he got one. We only saw a few, in the same place we saw over 60 only 3 weeks ago on my bow hunt.
  15. Well, i just got back from another 5 day hunt. I got it wired up, and it sounds pretty good. It puts out a ton more high end than i am used to. Not in a bad way, just different than what i am used to. The cleans are as crisp as it gets though!
  16. Thanks Wes. Thats actually 1 thing i have never tried, direct mounted pickups. I have a template that would work perfectly fot it. I think i would only like the look of direct mounteds with all black pickups, like EMGs. It would look a little less cluttered and more clean.
  17. Alright, so no bites on the Peek. So here ya go.
  18. Thanks everybody. That has always been my favorite moment of building, when the first coat goes on! John, Thanks! I am really happy with the way it came out so far. I should be able to put it together tomorrow! I'll look into those gotohs, thanks for the heads up! For electronics, it will have EMG 81 and 60 buckers, and all black hardware, as usual Thanks!
  19. zero frets are nice. sure makes perfect action at the nut a lot easier too.
