  1. Yeah I've tried the counter thing. Its pretty cool. I havent actually soldered it up yet or even get a proper switch but its cool. You don't even need a fancy calculator, got mine at the dollar store. Carousel: Thats gonna be one classy lookin thing! Lovin the cedar! Just make sure your not breathing in the dust from the cedar because I think its pretty toxic stuff.
  2. Does anybody know where you can buy ebonite? Cause I think it might be cool to try for a fretboard. Does anybody know how it is on tools?
  3. Ended up going with the multiscale. That is just an amazing looking guitar. Hitone: You've inspired me to do a sports build. Haha as if I need another guitar to put on my list of wants. Great month.
  4. Which pickups are you talking about? Active pickups are usually covered with the covers we were talking about painting over. It was just a harmless dig at the actives, that's all. Haha no prob. Really? I didn't know that! I've always been under the impression that those kind of covers were active, apart from like Lace Sensors. I've never really looked into actives that much.
  5. Which pickups are you talking about?
  6. I think active pickups look better painted than passive pickups. Passive pickups are a little busy to be painted in my opinion. If your just looking for a solid colour for a passive, theres these things called bobbin toppers and I think Brian sells them. If its an active pickup like an EMG, check out some of the stuff that GMW guitarworks has done in the past, they have done some pretty badass guitars. Go to the General Archives section and then theres a green link to "examples of past graphics". They paint pickups alot. http://www.gmwguitars.com/
  7. Great Job Pukko! I'd put my vote in for the pickguard. Normally I'd say scratch the scratchplate (no pun intended), but I like that one. I think with the pickguard, the pickup rings look better as they are.
  8. +1. Haha when I saw "Free Maple" I was thinking "YEE ITS MY LUCKY DAY! FREE MAPLE!". Nice score though man.
  9. Yeah thats kinda the idea I'm goin for. It looks like I might have do a couple of tests on scrap to understand this better. As for pickups, I'm thinking of ordering a set of those new Neovin pickups from GFS, they're noiseless single coils. I might order a set of these or maybe the texas wound version. http://store.guitarfetish.com/fvicanenopis.html What do y'all think?
  10. I got it working, I just had to, as mentioned, fiddle with the cab settings. I tried it with the cab setting completely off, but that sounded bad so i just found a cab setting that sounded good through my amp. Thanks everybody!
  11. Hmm... I kind of like the cream to be honest. Both look sharp though.
  12. I have a Line 6 Pod version 2.0, it's great i've had it for 6 years ish. Anyway, it's great through headphones and direct and I use it alot. However, whenever I play it through my Peavey Delta Blues tube amp, the sound isn't the same. Its almost too boomy or something. I think its getting changed by the amp. Even when the amp has no reverb and clean with no overdrive, I still get this. I tried the pod through the effects loop but that just made things worse. So I have a couple questions: 1. Is it because my amp is tube? Is a Pod better through solid state? 2. Could I just run my Pod straight into a Cab? Would that make things better? Thanks EDIT: Just realized the title makes no sense. Sorry!
  13. Usually I'm not a big fan of BC Rich inspired guitars, but I like this one alot. Its classy. Good Job!
  14. Ok starting to get it now. So here's the new plan: 1. Apply Sanding sealer 2. Apply Black Grainfiller (stained with analine dye) 3. Sand Back 4. Clear/Or ad brighter dye colours on top and then clear.
  15. Ok that makes sense. Would it work if I did use the black dye though? Just because I do already have regular grain filler, so it would be easy if I could just use that. Yeah I know that, I just meant the black grain. The amber thing was my own idea.
  16. So I will be doing a strat build. I came across a swamp ash Bernie Hefner body, so I will be using that. I'm gonna take a crack at building my neck so that'll be a first. The body will be refinished using powdered analine dyes from Lee Valley hopefully. Heres some specs: Bridge: USA spaced trem from Guitarfetish with a nice steel block and steel saddles. Pickguard: Fully loaded B/W/B also from Guitarfetish Pickups: Still fairly undecided... I was thinking maybe the noiseless Lace Holy Grails, I'm not sure though. I hope to go noiseless, if money comes into play I might go with something else. Truss Rod: I was told that the HotRod from stewmac is very good. Neck: I will be building. Heres some other pics (the back and front are done sanding now, just have to do the sides and inside the horns): http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x26/WAK...rs/Dscf0015.jpg http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x26/WAK...rs/Dscf0012.jpg http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x26/WAK...rs/Dscf0013.jpg Ok I do have some questions about using the dyes. I will probably be using these: http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.aspx?c=...,42996&ap=1 I am kind of going for this effect (I forget were I found this picture, but this guy can do some pretty cool stuff): So here's the plan that I've thought up (Correct me if theres mistakes): 1. Stain the bare wood with the ebony black dye. 2. Sand back so that just the grain is black. 3. Apply Grain Filler 4. Apply Sanding Sealer 5. Apply one of the amber-like dyes on the Lee Valley site, maybe a yellow, not completely sold yet. 6. Apply Sanding Sealer 7. Do a light burst with a darker concentration of the amber, or a brown. 8. Apply Sanding Sealer 9. Wetsand with 320 grit 10. Apply Clear Coats 11. Wetsand and Buff as usual. Does that sound right? NECK: I might need a little coaching in this department when the time comes! I basically will be using the method in the Melvyn Hiscock book when he builds the tele neck. As for headstock shape, I'm still pretty undecided. I do have a Fender decal if I decide to go that route, or I may try my own shape... Also I want this to become a little more than the routine strat build, so I may add a homemade piezo or something like that. If you have any ideas on spicing the guitar up, please tell me! Well thats all for now I guess!
  17. Same. I just got one of the cheaper prewired pickguards. It looks pretty good. Don't know how it sounds yet, I will probably end up swapping the pups out for something else but for 30 bucks you cant beat it. They definetly have some good stuff there.
  18. haha yup thats your strat i'm talking about lol
  19. I just ordered some stuff from Guitarfetish. I was thinking of the Modboards but chickened out. This is a bit of an old thread so, does anybody have any clips we could listen to if you have bought one? I'd love to hear one. And from the sounds of it, most people on the net would like to hear one too. They do sound really cool. And at a price like that, wow.
  20. I've just about finished wetsanding a neck that has been done in nitro. I was wondering if there is a cheaper rubbing compound than the 3M Perfect-It II Fine Cut. At first I thought maybe turtle wax, but i heard that it "ruins the clear coat". I did read LGM's tutorial but am still a little confused. Anyway I need a cheaper alternative to the 3M version if there is one. Thanks
  21. +1. I'd make the higher cutaway farther in. Apart from that lookin sweet! I only see five saddles though.... Where is the lonely saddle???
  22. Wow. I can't believe that that guitar only took you 5 days. Thats insane! How does this guy schedule it? Cause I would love to complete a guitar in 5 days!
  23. My friend (also a Malmsteen fan) has a dummy pickup in his middle position. Its not connected. So I'd say you should be ok as long as you do it properly.
  24. This kinda what you mean? >>> http://www.nymphusa.com/tele/relic_crack.asp
