  1. Anybody? P.S. Happy Spring Break Everybody!
  2. Hmmm... I can't get it in word or powerpoint and the one program that i can open it in has this message over it: CAD Image DLL trial version use CS Manager.exe for good resolution Purchase CADImage.DLL on cadsofttools.com Do I need CAD software? The file is an .svg file. I am running on Windows 98 so...
  3. WOW! those are perfect! So how exactly would I use Word or powerpoint to put it to scale? Just trial and error?
  4. RGman, did you ever find plans? Or anybody else for that matter? Cause I'm in need of a 50's headstock one. Sorry for the bump.
  5. Thanks you guys. Yeah I was just asking in the off chance that I could substitute it. I won't though. Thanks I might look into that. It sounds like its even more helpful when your on a tight schedule.
  6. Sorry for the bump. I thought I'd recycle this thread to ask another question. I ended up getting grain filler. Anyway it says on the bucket to thin it with mineral spirits. Would I be able to use turpentine in its place? I know that turpentine is stronger than mineral spirits (from Google-ing). I have a feeling I won't be able to use it, I just thought I'd ask you guys because I do have some in my basement and rather than adding another bottle of toxic liquid to the basement, it would be nice to use what I got.
  7. Thanks. So I would spray over the frets as well and just scrape it off the frets?
  8. I'd say definetly keep the wild horn. It keeps the guitar different and thats the thing I liked about it the most when I first saw it. And with the grain on the upper horn, why cut any off?? Anyway those are my 2 cents and I can't wait to see this one's progress.
  9. My friend has a one piece maple neck and he wants a glossy finish on the fretboard. I read a bit on ReRanch and I'm under the impression that i would use the same laqcuer that I would for the rest of the neck. Is this right? Because I would think that the strings would scratch the laqcuer and leave nasty lookin white streaks. Thats just my first impression. Should I do what it says on ReRanch? Thanks you guys.
  10. Are you thinking of something like this?
  11. I am looking to build a one piece maple neck for a strat body which I bought. I know where I can get wood, but I don't know where I can get a neck jig. I am looking for something like in Melvyn Hiscocks book (when he makes the tele neck) but I need it for a strat with a 50's head. I was also wondering where I could get the other jigs he uses for the neck, like the curved one for cutting the truss rod channel and the one for drilling the wholes at each end of the neck. Sorry If that is kind of vague. Will I just have to make these jigs myself? Thanks
  12. I would definetly go with a sealer. You would end up spraying a lot of primer and even then it might not do the trick. Its probably faster to spray the primer first, but you want to think down the road a bit on how you want it to look. If you want to be sure of a long lasting, even finish I would go with the sealer. Good Luck!
  13. Thats a great idea! Especially if your working out of your home. I might make me one of those!
  14. Thanks guys! I actually have Hiscocks book and hadn't got to that part yet. Anyway I found it. I gotta go do some reading.
  15. Hi everybody. I did a search but I cannot find a thread on building a 1 piece maple strat neck. These are the necks where the fretboard and rest of the neck are one piece and they have the walnut fillet in the back. Are there any good tutorials or thread on building this kind of neck? The main difference between this and building a rosewood strat neck would be installing the truss rod right? Anyway, if any of you guys know where I might find a thread like this or a site that explains it that would be great! Thanks
  16. Yeah I agree with Mattia. Don't use plywood. Because when you finish it, you want it to be a good guitar that you can be proud of. And if you build a guitar of plywood and realize you don't love plywood guitars, you probably will have wasted money on it anyway. I say build your confidence up and if you do your homework, you'll be fine.
  17. WOW! I have to get my hands on a set of those! Does anybody know where to get them in Canada?
  18. Yeah it kind of looks like some sliding doors in my house and their outsides are plywood, but if your sure that yours are solid 3 pieces than I guess not.
  19. I really like this guitar and in any other month I would have voted for it. You've got to understand that this months GOTM race is unusually stacked and it is one of the best months I've ever seen. So don't be disappointed, I think a lot of people love this guitar, including me, so if anything take this guitar as a winner regardless on how it stands in the voting. And if you still feel disapointed, use that to fuel your next build. About the inlays, I think that'd be really cool to kind of complete the theme with the snakes.
  20. So that's where my wood fell off my truck!!! Just kidding, but seriously everyone did a great job and this month was a hard one to pick. I had to go with Marcovis because I'm planning something similar to that in the future. But the ouroborous was a close second because it just looks so freakin awesome!
  21. I'm not 100%, but I would think 17 degrees would make it a little weak with it being 6 in line. I'd think something like 13 degrees would be safer. Again, I'm not an expert about firebirds so.
