  1. That looks amazing wow! That makes me want to handpaint a guitar! So was she was just using regular acrylic paints or was it something special?
  2. Thanks Drak. I can't find any pics of that guitar, what thread is it in?
  3. Does anybody know of some different ways of finishing walnut? Because I got a piece when I moved and am gonna use it for a top I think. Do people ever stain walnut or do bursts on it? I guess that might defeat the purpose of having a wood like walnut as a top but it might be cool. The only walnut finishes I've found are clear.
  4. Wow I didn't know Hiscock was a member! Thats awesome.
  5. Well my template bit is brand new from Lee Valley so i don't think that would be a problem. One thing that might come into play is that my router has 2hp. Is that enough for this kind of job? Merry Christmas Everybody!
  6. I want to cut out my first custom shape for a guitar but I don't have a bandsaw. Could I use a router and just make a few passes. My idea was I could freehand the outline and then use a template bit to get deeper. Is this unsafe or will it work? Thanks
  7. Aw man I had the same idea a couple weeks ago! It'll look awesome I think. Post some pics when your finished.
  8. Ya know... A fancy cardboard cutout contest is possible to do in a month. We could just have a simple design contest. No actual building needed. It could be a sketch on a napkin, a CAD, or cardboard mock up. Extra points for if the cardboard guitar actually plays a note. The main complaint about having any sort of monthly competition (which it doesn't have to be) is that a full on guitar requires a lot of wood working and time to get everything done, let alone to let the finish cure. I say, set the bar lower. Here's a few ideas: 1) build a fret bender to pre-radius fret wire 2) find an inexpensive alternative to an expensive tool 3) wind your own pickup and post a sound clip 4) you open the door and find a group of orcs. What's your THACO Wes? 5) find a creative way to use a 5 position strat switch to do something else 6) make something usefull from plywood There's all kinds of easy stuff like that we can do in a short time frame. New tools and jigs are always welcome too. Any thoughts? Oh, and the orcs roll a 2 on initiative... I think a smaller thing like wind your own pickup month could work. I kind of like the annual awards idea with different categories. We could have like the top three from each month and put them into categories. I think anything would be cool if we could make it work.
  9. I think EVH used a brass nut for a while. My guitar teacher has an Ibanez George Benson model and he has a half brass half ivory nut and he says he likes it, so theres something to consider if you don't like the tone of an all brass nut. Good Luck.
  10. REALLY?!?! That would be really convenient because theres a Benjamin Moore store just up my street! I checked there about a month ago but I couldn't find anything. I better check again then!
  11. Well if your willing to take the do-it-yourself route heres a couple good links: http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.ph...=homemade+piezo http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=439 I was thinking of doing it with a floyd. I've got the piezo buzzer but still have to get around to putting it on. From what I've heard it should only take about a day. Good Luck!
  12. I've heard in a book somewheres that tru oil finishes take a little bit of the bite and treble out of the sound. Is this true?
  13. Again, I don't have any experience with either Saga or Warmoth. But in my opinion the PRS Saga kits don't look a thing like the real deal.
  14. Thanks! I might try that. But it would be easier for me if I could just buy some Deft or something. Just because of the time I have. So I guess if anybody has any ideas of where I could pick some up, post em' here. Thanks
  15. I can't find something again! First I couldn't find titebond and now I can't find sanding sealer!!! Anyway I was wondering where I could get some. All the stores I call either don't know what I'm talking about or do but don't have it. I've tried Home Depot, Piercey's and Canadian Tire. Kent were the only people who knew what i was talking about, but they didn't have it. So for those Canadians and especially Nova Scotians out there, I was wondering where you got your sanding sealer. I know Deft and Minwax are good brands. And I think Zinnser makes a "universal sanding sealer". Do I have to order it specially? Thanks
  16. +1. A ridge will happen with basically any finish where you use masking tape (think Frankenstrat). You've just got to build up the clear so it gets rid of the ridge, and then wetsand and buff as usual. Hope that helps.
  17. First of all, gutsy move building a clear guitar for your first project! But it looks like you've done your homework and its lookin good! As for the shape, I've been looking at it for a couple minutes and its grown on me. I'll like to see how this puppy sounds when its done.
  18. That looks really good! Definitely the right colour for it! I really like that binding, I tried searching Woodcraft but I didn't find it. Whats it called?
  19. It kinda looks like its from IKEA! 100th post
  20. That looks awesome! Can't wait to hear it play.
  21. Those look classy! Especially the tele. Yeah I still have a bit of that neck-making-fobia. But I think its starting to wear off.
  22. Guitar dude23 There is a dealer based in Alberta I think called Eden. They sell fender style necks and knock off bodies for really cheap. I've never bought anything from them so i can't say much about the value, but if you are on a tight budget, they sell necks for about $30 last time I checked. They don't have a nut in them but you could probably put one in yourself. Again, I don't know much about the quality but its an option.
  23. The MBM1 has a Gibraltar Plus. So maybe if you search that on ebay something will come up. I know I see a lot of Edge bridges on ebay, I haven't seen one of these yet though. Sb, your in Canada so try kijiji.ca its kind of like ebay but its all local. I've bought a couple things off there. It would be a long shot to find that exact bridge. But in a place like TO ya never know. Good Luck!
