  1. looks like maple to me the unfigured maple can have extremely boring grain look at some of the les paul studios they use plain grain tops to cut cost.
  2. id have to go with a randy rhoads only if i could get it with 3 dimarzios though.
  3. just make sure you mask the fretboard even the last thing you want is some wood showing up near the fretboard i tried to paint one of my necks and didnt mask good enough and it looked really bad. if you mask good though it should look awesome. also warmoth offers the necks painted right from the factory if you want to go that route.
  4. Ya it was just to powerfull i play ALOT of ballads in my band so if your like me and need to go clean the x2n is definetly a bad choice im replacing mine with an evo soon wich imho is the best pickup they ever made.
  5. hi guys i had a quick question for you all. I removed the fretboard from a yamaha pacifica neck that i had scalloped after realizing it was a pretty bad job. now im getting ready to get a new fretboard for it and practice fretting and inlaying. (i got the neck for $40 when i didnt know about checking necks for quality) should i glue the board on in rough dimensions then trim and sand or should i cut it very close to the right dimemnsions then clean it up a bit. Thanks in advance. George
  6. you could end up being lucky anyway my experiences with harbor freight have been good and bad once in a while it does save you the money and get you a good product. Ive had a few hf tools break but thats a lot of the time just bad luck. Alot of my hf tools are still good and they have gone through me my grandfather and my dad using them. Hopefully youll end up lucky.
  7. put on the neck today i ended up gluing in the bolt on neck and i know this is normaly a no no but i thought it would be best seeing that the body is so slim im going to bolt it on but this was for added strength. Is that a good idea or am i screwed?
  8. i play 80's hair metal and i am in the process of putting dimarzios in all my guitars. My opinion is all there models are great. Ive tried the evos the pafs the joe satriani the super distortion and the x2n. The only one i really didnt care for was the x2n. I have it in my yamaha strat and i think its too powerfull it distorts my clean chanell too much. its still better then most pickups. also the options of colors are awesome.
  9. got the body all wet-sanded and its going in to clear coat tommorow (if it stops being so humid)
  10. got the contours on the back done today ill post pics in the morning when i can find my camera also i did a few finish samples that ill post too.
  11. thats sick ive had no luck so far finding a set neck on ebay do you remember the seller?
  12. were did you get the washburn idol neck did you buy it or did you get off a broken idol?
  13. congrats you did a really good job building your guitar thats one of the best canarywood tops ive ever seen.
  14. thanks i figured that would be the way to go thanks for the help.
  15. heres the route that got messed up does anyone have any idea on a way to fix it?
  16. i had a similar problem on my 60s teisco The guy aid something about the gears not lyning up im not sure if its the same as yours though. The tech at my local shop fixed it for me when he was doing a setup. If its the same problem as yours ill ask him how he did it.
  17. I think that was more the way you put the bondo on if u put it on let it cure then sand so only the grain or ding your trying to fill is filled you will be fine. I used bondo on my last time and found if you leave it on like wood putty it will crack but if you put it on smooth with a putty knife it will be fine.
  18. thread on tonewood heres a site that was posted on a thread from the tutorial section on all the different tonewoods. hope it helps.
  19. got the routes done on my sg today but i broke my controll cavity template also when i broke the template the route got messed up. at least its on the back.
  20. i put a one meg dimarzio pot in my yamaha strat and i hate it. it is almost like an on off swithch right when you touch it it is all out pickup at its loudest. you really cant use your volume to mellow your sound at all. thats just my opinion though so id wait and see what others have to say before deciding.
  21. lookin good. sanding can be a real pain. also in case you didnt notice you sanded through your sealer in a few places so it would be a very wise idea to seal it before you paint. on my first guitar i painted i ended up spending way more than i needed to on paint because i didnt seal it well enough and the grain was showing through. have you decided on what color you are oing to paint it?
  22. mayby route a strat pickup under the tele pickup 5 pickups is something that i have never seen done. also mayby coiltaping on the humbucker you could even rout for the switch up were the toggle on a les paul is that would be pretty cool.
  23. looks to me like the original "original" floyd rose. it could be a knock off but when floyd came out with his first trem it had no locking tuners. You could get the right templates and route it out for a new floyd. are you able to post any pictures?
  24. im doing the same with an sg im building right now. The neck pocket will be thin so you will have to use shorter screws but as far as i know the epiphone sgs are around that thickness and still bolt on so you should be fine. Post some pics ive never seen a bass that thin it should be cool to see.
