  1. I asked something like this before.. Here..
  2. You must be a pretty rich man.. From someone who lives in a hot humid climate, something more to add to the suggestions above is to always keep the guitar in its case with some silica gel or something to that effect.. Should be able to get it from camera stores.. That usually keeps my strings oxidation free for quite a long time or until I can't stand the tone (or lack thereof) anymore.. I don't use coated strings so I use Fast Fret.. Here's some hearsay, I've heard that contact cleaner works wonders for the strings.. I know a guy here who swears by it.. I'm not sure how well that works (hell, I'm not even sure what it is) but if anyone here's ever tried it, please do tell..
  3. Could it be your expression?? That's a pretty important factor, both for covering other solos as well as for doing your own.. Gotta feeeel the soul..
  4. Stock on Fender Strats (3 single coils) are 250k while the stock on SGs are 500k.. 250k pots better for tone?? Subjective, to say the least.. I've heard of people using much higher values and swearing by it.. I personally go with just the 500k for hums and 250k for singles.. I'm not sure about the sound having something to do with the pots added together but something to take note of is that higher valued pots tend to 'pickup' more noise, or so I've heard.. I'm not one to mess with something that I'm already happy with.. Try Ansil.. He's a lot better at stuff like this so he should be able to tell you more.. If I'm not wrong, he uses 1M pots.. Sounds a little high for me but I'm sure he's got his reasons.. Cheers!!
  5. Well, you can't really say the Woodstock guitar was dead in tune now could you.. Anyway, I've got a copy of the performance but I've never noticed that.. I'll look out for it the next time I watch it..
  6. Thanks for the replies, guys and sorry for being so long getting back.. In Sydney right now bumming my arse off.. Ok, I did try the amp.. It's clean channel was something special, really, but the dirty left something a little to be desired.. Not quite as convincing.. I've yet to try it using my own guitars, though, but I intend to do that once I get back to muggy Singapore.. Are there any inherent flaws or idiosyncracies I should be looking out for?? Thanks!!
  7. Depends on a whole lot of factors, actually.. Generally, 250k pots are used with single coil pickups while 500k pots are used with humbuckers.. That's a very very general statment, by the way.. Some people prefer different values.. As a rough guide, the higher the pot value, the brighter the tone will get.. Nothing to do with the type or make of guitar..
  8. I'm using plain ol' aluminum foil, the sort you use to line your baking pans and such.. I tend to use the heavier ones 'cause they don't tear so easily.. Works pretty well for me.. And it's waaay cheap.. I've heard that the paint stuff is a lot of trouble for more or less the same effect.. Dunno.. Just something I've heard.. Never had the chance to try it myself.. Ansil: Isn't lead kinda dangerous??
  9. Hi.. Anyone out there own the above mentioned amp? Some dude is selling one here for about US$410.. '93 or '94 in really good condition.. Opinions?? Thanks!!
  10. Am I the only representative of Asia here???? C'mon, Asia's a big place, there's gotta be more Asians here.. I'm from Singapore..
  11. Good God, I think I'll just quit now and be done with it..
  12. Is it closed or open?? If it's open (ie you can see the wafer thingy and the connections), then you should be able to follow the connections to see which terminal is which.. A photo of the switch would help..
  13. I'm using that to host my website so if you need help just let me know.. And the Fullservesite server's been a little bit screwy the past few months so if you try a link to something on their servers and don't get anything, just try later..
  14. Do you smell the hormones in the air???? You guys should be ashamed of yourselves.. Women are not merely objects to be des-.... Ooo.. Look at Canucks..
  15. SLRs be sweet, man.. Anyway, I'm using a Canon A80 which I love.. It's a 3 mega-pixel with a good load of options besides the usual crappy Auto mode, much like the A60, if I'm not wrong.. It's got a good balance of functionality and simplicity.. If you're wondering about the picture quality, I've got pictures I took with it on my site..
  16. Me!! Me!! I'd want to hear 'em!! The more blues, the merrier.. By the way, great idea, BeAR..
  17. Hmm.. That's a shame to hear, really.. The Fenders (American ones) that I've tried have all been excellent all round.. Pricey though, but I guess you do pay in part for the name too.. I'm just wondering if the ones that Fender exports (ie out of America) are of better quality?? Is that possible?? Just a thought 'cause the American made Fenders I've tried here in Singapore have all been of very high quality and, in my experience, some of the best playing guitars I've tried..
  18. Again, not a lot we can do without the pictures (try Fullservesite) but I can tell you that it shouldn't have anything to do with the tone pots not being there.. However, you may have accidentally done something else to the circuit.. I'll agree with Lovekraft and say that the neck and middle probably aren't grounded.. May have happened when you removed the tone pots.. But by themselves, not having the tone pots there shouldn't do anything to the circuit.. Hope that helps..
  19. Yeah.. Tongue shocking's always fun..
  20. That's what the resistor is for.. It'll draw off a certain percentage of voltage depending on its resistance value so the voltage drop across the LED won't be so high.. I was just checking if the principle applied to LEDs as well.. I find 9v batteries more convenient..
  21. Hope this isn't too late but if you're still interested, Morello uses a Seymour Duncan Hotrails pickup in the bridge position while the other 2 are stock Fender noiseless pickups.. The Hotrails is a humbucker in single coil size.. And guitar wiring's simpler than it seems.. Really!!
  22. Wow.. Check out the headstock.. Love it, man.. Good job!!
