  1. fantastic work lex, please do keep us posted.
  2. Before you do anything, try and cut a string slot into a scrap piece of stainless. You will soon forget about the idea altogether. I have literally melted drill bits trying to drill through thin stainless steel, so imagine how hard they will be to file.
  3. More uneducated bullsh1t. Please stop posting rediculous claims, you REALLY ARE doing more damage than good.
  4. Huh?? Sorry dude, but your incorrect. There are twelve notes to an octave. Got nothing to do with imperial measurements.
  5. Well i think its an out dated piece of crap, which has been bettered by every other manufacturer out there. How they can charge what they do for the top end models is beyond comprehension.
  6. Thats a double negative. You should be fine.
  7. Well Wes, i was going to bamboozle everyone with a bunch of facts about glue strength vs wood grain strength, but i think you effectively KILLED, MAIMED, CHEWED UP, and SPAT OUT any further arguments with your comments. As for the doubters: GLUE IS STRONGER THAN THE WOOD ITSELF, PERIOD! Do you own tests if you dont want to listen to advice. Or, simply dont bother asking the questions any longer.
  8. the strats 50th birthday, not fenders....
  9. Jimmy, i'll have some templates ready on mon or tues.
  10. Im not referring to intonation range. Im talking about broken and compressed wood around the studs, worn knife edges AND screws, stripped out claw screws, less friendly bar movement, etc etc.
  11. You havent set up many 10's or 11's on floyds have you!! I know a few VERY reputable repairers that simply refuse to fit anything heavier than 9-42 onto ANY floyd.
  12. Watch this auction as a guage to see what custom made guitars fetch on ebay. Might relate to the "big project" some people want to do in here.
  13. Sorry guys, i changed domain hosts today, and they say it'll take 72 hours to full change over... whatever that means PM's are fine, as ive deleted all the old ones now.
  14. Ok fellas, the wire is on its way. Please contact me on email (guitars@monaro.com.au) to place your orders. These prices are valid until Jan 30th PaylPal, int. Money order, personal cheques are all fine. Will find out postage costs today
  15. There is no set angle for all guitars. It is TOTALLY based on hardware, fretboard playing surface vs top of body, and if it is a carved top or not. You HAVE to draw it out at full size, as a side on view (yes, the full guitar), otherwise you are guessing.
  16. Hmmmmm, that's odd. I buy all of my OFR's from him and have never had problem one, all effortless transactions. Maybe you would like to relate your -personal- misfortunes with Mr. Roman, eh? I mean, to go badmouthing someone on-line like that, you must have been done some personal wrong by the guy, no? the people that bad mouth him very rarely have had any personal experience with Ed Roman. I guess jealousy is a curse. As for RacerX who kicked him in the butt, whilst wearing a false name tag, and then ran away when asked for his name, well, thats just cowardly. No different to people who scratch cars for fun as far as im concerned.
  17. I dont know what you guys want to call them over there, but where i come from, this is what they are: Surface Planer/Buzzer: Planes one side only, to be true and flat. Once one side is flat, you can use that side against the fence to achieve a 90deg flat side. Planer Thicknesser: Once a piece of board has been "buzzed" with the surface planer, you can use the thicknesser to trim it to final thickness. It is useless to thickness a piece of wood that hasnt been "buzzed" first, because the timber wont be flat on the bottom edge (a thicknesser cuts the top off). The equivalent machine, but using sanding belts, is called a Drum Sander. You cant use one machine without the other. Using both machines, is called "dressing" your timber.
  18. It is much harder to build a neck through. 1 the wings need to be aligned perfectly with the neck 2 the routing of pickups has to be done with a fretboard in the way 3 you have to lug that neck around everywhere to work on the guitar, eg: drill press, bandsaw, etc Imagine cutting the body shape with a neck attached! 4 more difficult to finish and buff 5 More difficult to assemble, the neck gets in the way.
  19. snork, that is the first good idea i've ever heard you say. (and probably the only good idea you've ever had ) Except it aint a good idea... You cant shape the neck unless the fret board is attached = 1 x shipping You cant cut the neck pocket unless the neck is there to test = 1 x shipping One person to machine and glue up all the neck blanks or body blanks = 1 x shipping You cant expect one person to cut the body, sand it, rout it, prime it, finish it, and buff it. Thats got to be split up amongst a few people = 3 x shipping Electronics? = 1 x shipping Hardware? 1 x shipping Thats 8 lots of shipping so far, and what, $15-30 each time? Insurance? Who shippied the raw materials to begin with? 1 x shipping Who shipped the electronics and hardware? 1 x shipping It all adds up!
  20. If i was building a guitar for myself to keep, and i had the choice of a free floyd rose (brand new, geniune), or a $199 Kahler, i would pay the extra for the kahler. And yes, Wes is right. When doing wild devil worshipping dives and pull ups, the pesky fret board doesnt get in the way, because the string action hieght does not change at all, regardless of how much trem abuse you give it.
  21. I thought you were adding your sales commission
  22. MY question is: If you saw a no name custom made guitar on ebay, how much would YOU pay for it? I guess most people here wouldnt even bid on it... Fact is, unless you've got a name for yourself, or your building for friends, or someone has played your guitars somewhere previously, custom made guitars are not highly prized items, regardless of how good they are. Im also a little concerned over the quality of work that people are able to do. Im sure there were more than a few people volunteering for this project (in other threads), that havent even built a guitar yet... It would be a great way to promote the site, but so would adding a link to the home page from all our own webpages (something i have failed to do). It might raise some money too, but so would sending $5 to brian to cover bandwidth, hosting, etc. I plan to be a paid advertiser by the end of the month, as ive recieved sales from this forum, so its only fair. However, if it goes ahead, i would like to consider being a part of it all.
