I said it once i'll say it again, Best thing for your friend to do is go to the music store and play all the different models they have for under 1k. That to me is probably the most important thing in looking for a guitar ,is how it feels to you. It could be one of the well known models and your hand wrapped around the neck playing and it feels all wrong...lol listen to "foreiner" "juke box hero"....."then he bought a six string at a second hand store couldn't play a lick but he knew for sure, that one guitar "felt good in his hands" dont take to understand....Definantly have your friend go by how the guitar feels to him not by how good it looks or the brand.

I try to play what i can from Satch,Vai,Howe,Johnson,Dream Theater,Rush,Megadeath and like to tone it down with some Issak,Hoey and so forth...iv tried to come up with my own stuff but...lol it ends up sounding like some one elses stuff for instance just the other day i was fishing around and came up with this nice little groove only to hear Deff Leppard's opening riff to Hysteria and while its not quite the same i cant help but going "doe!!!" lol

Yeah Yngwie was pretty comical doing "voodoo child" lol i think he kept Satch and Vai in stiches laughing...if any of you saw on Satchs websight he had a message with him and Yngwie and Vai at the start of the tour and it looked like Yngwie was in rare form and Satch and Vai was enjoying it. I gotta say i keep replaying Vais opening song "I know you'er here" that was just so beautiful and awesome to watch him with that monster Jem....looping that riff and runnnign on the fretless neck strumming the 12 string and playing the main part on the six. Just the whole song was awesome he even sang really good on it....Idefinantly hope he puts that out on his next CD if not no prob. I guess its on the CD version of the concert recorded. I so many other guitarist i'd love to see join them on the G3 tour but would'nt you agree it would be awesom to see Eddie Van Halen on the next G3 tour??? LOL i mean heck he's not doing anything right now.....It would be breath taking to see all three tapping on the jam session lol.

I just got my G3 live in denver DVD yesterday and my god what a perfomance......i went to the '01G3 with Petrucci and by all means that was my dream concert...but after watching the 03' G3 i must say im kicking my ass over and over for not traveling to see them. 1st off Satch just rocked....he brought out one of his guitars with killer graphics kameleon green flames with a nice snake like scales done in orange burst and a murial of silver surfer on the back. Vai started off with a monster Jem..DAYUM that song he did on it was nothing short of beautiful and he also play a song i forgot about "get the hell outta here" from that movie "encino man" lol...he just tore it up. Of course Malmsteen went balistic with his songs Adagio i just loved...........AHHHHH If you got a to go to the concert then you know what im talking about x 3 lol an experiance every guitar player should witness................a definant thumbs up!!!!!!!!!!!

This is an exellent question...i too have been thinking of a small paint booth since i live in an apt. and its pretty hard to find a place to paint without Mrs. Jones yelling that she can smell the paint fumes all in her apt. . I was thinking along the lines of something like a sandblasting booth???? of course you could modify it with a vent fan and a hose to where you could vent out the fumes out your window and make a bigger window instead of the small one...realizing the cost of doing that could be more than what your willing to pay but i would think if done right using a metal frame,pexi glass and so forth, it would give you years and years of good painting.....it would work in an apt or garage...anywhere........my 0.02

Thats what i love about this particular vote.....its a testament of how many wonderful guitarist we have in this world....i just can't bring myself to say "this guitarist is the all time best" thumbs up to anyone whom lays their hands on the stringed instrument and makes it sing

Don't forget John Petrucci and Greg Howe these two can shred propably the best and yet play an acustic with such beauty...but like iv said before i have to damn many guitarist that i think are tops lol

1st: John Myung & Geddy Lee...the best bassist.....Why? Because I believe 1st and foremost what makes a band sound good is everyone in the band to gel together and feed off each other as a whole rather then having one particular instrument stand out and the bands these two bassist play in personifies that. Both Lee and Myung display outta this world bass playing and yet they keep it within there bands main interest...to play good music for the people lol....again just my 0.02

The best Concert for is a toss up between RUSH-VAPOR TRAILS TOUR AND G3'01....Rush takes the edge with a flawless unbelievable concert...it waslike you were listening to a CD...lol and i was way back on the grass at the venue. Of course G3 was awsome in its right being i got to see my fav. guitarsist all play on the same stage Satch,Vai,Petrucci...even billy gibbons "ZZ" at the end of the jam session.....and that concert was flawless as well...................The worst..well lol it would be a free concert back in '86 i think....Cheap Trick put a free concert on outside Six Flags Astroworld theme park.....i spent more time with my fingers in my ears....they should shot the sound guy.....good thing it was free lol......I would say another best is Dream theater: SDOIT tour but i was sick but didnt want to miss it so i mustered up the strength to enjoy what i could....so my fault on that one and there tour last year with Queensryche was pretty good....what didnt get a full thumbs up was being Houston was the opener for that part of thre tour and we were delayed and hour getting in cause of "fire inspector code check ups" Fates warning was already playing, dream theaters set went pretty fast (to quick to soak it in and enjoy) and Queensryche's replacement guitarist messed up acouple times on some good songs.....lol so i am hoping and praying that Dream Theaters TOT tour "an evening with" will swing by Houston this year

OK here's something i haven't thought of till im going to be confronted with it soon. Iv nabbed a RG220B off Ebay and im going to turn it into a JPM look-a-like. As i was tripping off the hardware i soon realized that the JPM dosen't use the trim rings and was wondering once i purchase two new humbuckers how could i place them without the trim rings lol anyone who can school me in that would have my greatest graditude.

Hey just a side note to all whom are looking to have a custom pickguard for the H-S-H pickguard style http://www.terrapinguitars.com/ has that pattern already so you dont have to draw one and send it to them. Im having them do me a mirror pickguard for my 550. They have some pretty awesome color patterns to choose from.

Yeah this is a pretty hard thing to do, I tried a while back with a piece of wood taped off in sections and had my stained dried alittle so it wouldn't run under the taped area but it still ran...i guess the grain of the wood had lots of tiny pits which made it look like streaks....shoulda sealed it first i guess lol. But i love the JPM90th its got to be by far my fav. guitar and would love to own one...even better i'd love to get the technique down on how to do it.

WOW i used one of those back in wood shop in high school.......ya know i wish i would've known then what i know now lol i just made one of those goofy napkin holders so i'd pass the class......i coulda crafted out a kickbutt guitar and started my luthier career sheesh

House of Kolor would be considered one of the best quality paints to use, also try Guitar ReRanch for his line of paints they work exellent. For my $0.02 Temperature is everything when dealing with spray can paints, if you live in an area with humidity most the year it becomes pretty difficult and your local weather man becomes your buddy lol but the instructions on the can will give ya the ideal conditions to paint in...........good luck!!!

Well i look at it this way: Satch taught Vai ..we all know that.....they both play pretty much the same, it's there personal touch to there own styles that makes the fork in the road. Satch likes to stay on the blues/rock side of things to where Vai likes to push his guitar over the edge making guitar playing more than just using your two hands lol. I love them both and have seen both in concert numerous times and i have never been disapointed......How bout asking the question "Had Satriani and Vai never met and Satch never taught Vai, would Vai be who he is today?????"...I think Satch said it in his "satch tapes" some times the teacher becomes the student when the student is progressing faster then the teacher came progress the lessons........they are both immortal in my book!!!!!!!!
