  1. I think it look good the way it is. Just my honest opinion. I am trying to visualize it black...
  2. That's it. He makes Jet Fretz I'm going to make Turbo Tunerz...Blow on 'em to get in tune!
  3. AE3, I powder coated a few aluminum pieces for a block plane that I made in college. The powder coater cost around $30 at Harbor Freight and we used an old oven to bake it.
  4. OK, I am finally done this rebuild...sort of. Here is a close up of the body. The pick guard turned out better than I expected. The full body shot. Here is the rebuilt headstock. Yeah, that's my foot. The problem I have is that after plugging it in, I get NOTHING out of it. I guess I am tearing it apart tomorrow and troubleshooting the wiring.
  5. Very nice guitar! A question, how are your truss rod cover and electronics cover attached? Magnets?
  6. If making a retainer block out of wood, what type of wood would you recommend? (I can't believe I just typed that. It's almost like "How much wood, can a woochuck chuck...)
  7. Boggs, that is a neat looking piece of wood. Are you thinking of an oil finish? It would bring out the grain wonderfully. Is it a dense, heavy wood? I never heard of it and was wondering what the heft and eventual tone of it will be. I am going to be keeping my eye on this one. I like the shape of it, by the way.
  8. I have some black spray paint (GASP!) so I painted the back side of the pickguard yeaterday after taking the pic.
  9. I like the finish on the body. From the thrid pic, I thought "Oh no, another BLACK guitar!" Then I saw the close-ups. I love the grey/silver coloring. Nice job! BTW< I completely missed the skull knobs the first time around. Nice touch.
  10. OK, this is almost finished. I cut the pickguard on Monday and fitted it to the guitar, but I am still using the original electronics cover. All that is left is to paint the pickguard and wire the thing up. Oh yeah, get some strings...tune...earn how to play...
  11. Congrats ToneMonkey! Like they say about the Army, it's the toughest job you'll ever love. My daughter is two and has my personality. She and I continually drive her mother nuts.
  12. Doug, great looking guitar. I have one question, how will the frets go over the 'corrosion' on the fret board? Or does the corrosion cover the frets?
  13. I like the style of your bass. Its curvy, yet sharp. (if that makes any sense).
  14. Hi all. I am almost finished with a rebuild of a Teisco short-scale bass. I have converted it to a fretless bass using maple in the frets. I question is what type/brand is recommended by you (who know MUCH more about his than I do) for a short-scale, 4 string fretless bass? Thanks!
  15. I like the look of the marker dots on the fret board. Classic. I think I need to do that for my next build...mind if I copy?
  16. AUUGGGHHH Doug! Sorry, man but that's sad. Are you planning on building another?
  17. Thanks foil. I know there are at least FOUR beaters st this shop. After I am done with this one, I may have to go back...
  18. On an personal note, my first build that I am doing I am modeling after Campbell American's Transitone. I e-mailed them for permission to copy their guitar and actually received permission from the President of the company! Of course, he said that if I tried to sell it, the lawyers would be in touch with me. Since I have been building it, the design has changed some and it does not look like the original anyway .
  19. This is the maple binding being bent. The red is saran wrap to protect the fretboard. This is the finished product. I finally got to paint the body. I need to add another coat to the back. This is another shot of the body.
  20. If the Powers That Be would like to delete this posting, I have found the bushings I was looking for. Thanks, Chuck
  21. Doug, My jaw hurts from dropping every time I see your guitars...STOP IT!
  22. Daniel, My family are praying for you and yours at this time of loss.
  23. kp, I was thinking about using good ol' Testors rattlecan metallic green for my bass rebuild. As long as I am using a good clear coat, I should be ok? BTW, I have a can of poly that I have used for other wood projects, It dries pretty hard. EDIT: I forgot to ask...do you use a primer prior to painting?
