  1. Since you got 3 guitars here, this is the one that I liked, and the 4+2 neck is awsome, I'm trying to modify the one from James Hetfield guitar(explorer) into a 4+2, just finished printing the real size to start working with it. Awsome work...
  2. I now how it is out of the states, in Germany everything was more expensive, specialy since the Euro started going up. Over here is the opossite. A machine shop will charge by the hour and if it is less than an hour they will tore a hole in your pocket. Good luck!
  3. Has anyone redone an Epi LP, I want to do mine but I will like to know if the top is a veneer or a solid. I already got a surprise when I sanded the neck bare and found that it was maple instead of mahogany. the last thing that I want is to sand thru the body to find that it,s a veneer and damage it. I plan on using a dye to stain the top,(it's flame maple) and then do some flames or a burst with the duplicolor Mirage system. Brian, or LGM any thoughts on this...
  4. Do you have a hardware store like Home Depot here in the , if you do you can get one of the good screws that yuo have and get a similar one or the whole set for change... I know they have them in Germany, I was over ther, the building there was a bright orange, can't remember the name and they had an OBI too, I think thats an European chain...
  5. Do you think that if I go over there I will be able to hold my self and only go to the exhibitions... Come on, too much good stuff, information, lessons.... could feel my bank account getting thinner, Marty Freidman (Cacophony... ) Could not put my self thru that... I also wrote MIKA, Sorry,YYYYY
  6. Sorry, didn't notice you were on the other side of the ocean...
  7. awsome job. I so mad I had to miss the convention. It was right next door, but I didn't had the money and the events that I wanted to see were on working hours and I couldn't leave since Igot nobody to replace me. I was looking foward to see MIKA's guitars since they look awsome on pics (can't imagine how good will look in person). may be next time...
  8. Great job as usual, don't have an inprogress of this. I seen the one for your chopper, (I think thats what it was) and right now I'm waiting to get my other guitars in the mail to start working on my LP ans will do a flame (may be tribal) job. Do you clear coat before the diferent layer always? This X-mas I will get me an air brush kit to start practicing. The one I have now is a cheap testor that I use for the model cars. Later...
  9. I don't have them but you can get a replacement on allparts or guitarpartsdepot.com
  10. those are pretty decent prices. But shop around, my friend got a Original FR from www.guitarpartsdepot.com for $85. They put them on sale onse in a while, that special lasted almost 2 months, so check them once in a while, also they are EMG dealers, and is were I got my KH21 and the Zakk Wylde set. It was the best price on the net. Also great service...
  11. I can see the pics now, probably a glitch with the server... Nice looking... the only note will be why didn't you clean up the burnt marks on the knob recesses? DC's are great!!!
  12. Hey Boggs. I worked with motors for a few years, and I think that the starting switch is the one that is bad(theres a centrifugal starting switch in every motor with caps on top, ...at least usualy). It doesn't look like a running cap motor since this ones used to have the cap by itself on the outside in order to allow you to invert the direction by switching the leads. Check eighter of the end caps to see if you can see the switch in the inside... if there is one the only thing you need to do is replace it or file the contacts clean, use a file and then a 1500 sand paper to "polish" it in order to prolong the life a little bit. If it doesn't have one (starting switch), then like you said, keep spinning the belt until the motor don't run again. this is a starting cap, and this is how the running cap looks like.
  13. I used to work at a machine shop and the tools that we bought from them were not the cheap ones. If you get the cheapest you get crap. They have a router set of 41 pcs for 19, another for 40 and another for 80. If you get the 19 don't expect to use them more than once. My boss learn that the hard way. we wanted a HVLP sprayer and he got the $40 special. Worthless. SO be careful what you order.
  14. The Grail has a Maple neck not Mahogany, there's a article in this months Guitar World mag, I don't have my scanner rigged up at the moment so I took a pic with my digital camera, you can read it here.... http://www.smartgroups.com/picvault/225772...lllllllllll.JPG Be warned 56k users it's pretty big I agree with what the Mag says because I have it. I got almost all the guitar mags that come for sale! But I knew this until I saw the photos from the recovered Grail in the posted pics on my previous posts. I KNOW that is not a maple neck. Unless the guy who had it was a mechanic and used burnt SAE 5W50 syntetic racing oil (Castrol is my favorite) to clean the neck instead of lemon oil , I mean I know that a raw neck can get dirty, but that looks like a 1950's baseball bat that was kept in a shed for eternity! Like I said before, I belive almost all that I read, but a picture is worth a thousand words, and is more true than a history told by someone who was not the one that actualy did it. I guess we will have to call Zakk and ask him on this one...
  15. Correction to my last post, the F250 is mado from Agathis, I was told it was Basswood. A haven't played and Agathis jet but the ESP reputation speakes for itself. What guitar you played that was agathis Wes? I plan on buying the F250 in a few months, and I will go to Guitar Center to play one before buying it.
  16. No Slash doesn't use a bare neck. I have two concert DVD's from G&R and the neck is finished. Even on the Buatiful red Mocking Bird. Zakk Wylde does. I'm trying to see if I can get his tech e-mail to see if he will answer the question. mainly is how much does problems does the bare neck brings him. I read an article from him a few years ago and he didn't mentioned anything about the neck. I love the feel of it. I guess that I'm just going to keep it bare, and clean it once a week with lemon oil if it get's dirty. I e-mailed epiphone asking about the maple neck, since this guitar was advertised, including on their web site as being a mahogany neck guitar. It have a mahogany veneer running from the sides of the heel and in the back of the head stock, the back of the neck was stained dark cherry like the back of the body, it looked suspicious because you could barely notice a hint of flame. Now I'm wondering if the dody is a venner covered one, and if the male is solid. When I replaced the pick ups, the top looked solid, but it can be an alder top with a flamed maple venner! I will wait until I get my other guitar back to take this one apart and refinish it. Then I will post pics and progress.
  17. If basswood is so bad why is Yngwie using it on the body of his Strats' and ESP on the 250 LTD's (this ain't the cheap 100's). Ijust went to a Yngwie concert here in Baltimore and the guitar sounded just like the records. Not too bad for a basswood body, not to mention the F300 that Hetfield is using now
  18. I don't like Gibson wire thats why Im scalloping the neck in my LP, don't like to fell the wood when bending or "running" scales. And to refret will be too expensive, scalloping is free......
  19. Try this link to see if it work, if not just copy this one and paste it on the address bar. http://www.vintagekramer.com/index.htm Just browse the collection area, the whole site have good info on Kramers, not the cheap ones they sale now. When I said he I didn't meant you, but the guy who did the video you were refering to.
  20. Nice guitar. The body is almost like the Japanese Focus and American Baretta Kramer. I think that what he modeled from, look here and tell me? Just one ? Why you didn't scallop the whole neck, or at least to the 12th f?
  21. Thanks for the advice. I just play this at my house and I always wash my hands before playing the damn thing. I read a few articles that say this will extend the life of the strings... Also I have seen so many nasty guitars with gunk on the strings that the owners claim that sound bad, after changing the strings, voila, the guitar is better than ever! Well on theGrail issue. The Grail was a Blonde (Vintage White) custom LP that Zakk bought when he was about 17, and then painted with the bulls eye because (as he said on Guitar Mag) he didn't want to be badged as a Randy imitator. The LP is Mahogany to include the neck, as you can see on the pics below. Here is were I found out. Just click on IMAGES. You will find pics of the Pawn Shop that the Grail was found and the person who found it. I included some pics just in case. The guy there is the one who found it, and where he did. I bet Zakk is a very happy MF right now... And the New custom made Bulls Eye guitar that Gibson makes is the one that havea maple neck, the original Grail is all Mahogany.
  22. Yesterday I was browsing the internet andI noticed in the Zakk Wylde site that they found the Grail. I Knew that this guitar was a solid color but I didn't know that the neck was mahogany, I wanted a bare neck on my Epiphone but I didn't like the color or texture of bare mahogany... I Decided to pull out my Epi and sand the neck just a little bit to make it slippery. And after sanding for Iwhile I noticed a familiar pattern on the wood. This neck is not mahogany as the web site says, but a lightly flamed maple neck!!! I removed all the lacquer and the cherry stain, using 600 sp sanded, wetted, sanded, wetted until the grain stopped lifting, then sanded with 1500, and 2000 sp, and theis is what I came up with. The first one is before applying a light coat of lemon oil, the second with oil. The question is, can I leave this raw and have no problem with it? or do I need to apply tung oil or tru oil, and how do this feel since I haven't try eighter one? I love the feel of the polished raw neck, but I don't want to damage it.
  23. I didn't want to do it but Brian show me a binded neck that he did and I decided to give it a try. It's scalloped from the 12 up since the only thing that I have is a 1/4" file and some sand paper. I will do the rest when I get a contour sander or a complete set of files ( I think the files are harder to do but better for big inlays, since they don't heat up the board too much) This was my first try to scallop so I checked all the tutorials and threads on scalloping I could find. this is a better shot of the scallop but the focus is off a little bit. and this is the Guitar, again the focus is off. Haven't got a hold off this camera for indoor shots yet.
  24. That idea of the bottle caps is already taken. Look here to see who. If you haven't guess by then...
