  1. Here chief, they've moved this stuff recently but somewhere in here you'll find everything you'll need to know. http://www.fender.com/support/setup/index.php Yes it's Fenders site, but for the most part, a guitar setup is a guitar setup.
  2. Yeah, my foolish ramblings have been deemed as Brianism's in the past. BTW: Passed through your neck of the woods this weekend and experienced the fine offerings of your local Bob Evans. An attempt at lawn & garden pickup winder? Watch da fingers..
  3. Drak as I’m really disappointed this time realizing it has been the progress of some of your works that have made me think so dimensionally differently about what you can do with a traditional guitar shape to create something to be qualified as true guitar porn! It does something to the guitar lover in all of us that we don’t even understand and the WOW factor of pictures along the way is pleasurable enough to be considered at least NC17! I would like to make a point or two but ultimately what completes your Zen is the optimal outcome…right? Some of the most common elements of the modern world were accidents. These creations where flaw (unintended outcome or use) was what caused their existence. Microwave Ovens, Matches, Post-It Notes, Velcro, Teflon, Cellophane, Anesthesia, Fingerprinting, Dynamite, Stainless steel, White out…the list goes on forever. Maybe, just maybe a mistake may lead you to something you had never thought of? Some of us have the desire but not the time or means to build…at least yet. I spend the majority of my free time making certain the youth in my house grow up with some degree of sanity in this seemingly going to hell on a freight train world. In turn some of us gain some level of fulfillment though your efforts (sort of like a favorite TV show life they can’t live by choice). I’m still wondering what came of that gorgeous dark blue spaulted you were working on months ago? Please try not to cancel the series right at the good parts okay? I’m done, just wanted to share my letter to the editor.
  4. That is part of the problem itself, there is no martial law in Louisiana! They are the legal anomaly in the US, they still practice something more relative to French law. The good news is it appears the troops have arrived.
  5. Siberian husky from the looks of it? Too Cool!, pretty rare I find someone who has one, let alone three. I still get all misty when I see one. Sorry to invade the thread....game on!
  6. Go ahead and right click the link you left earlier and 'Save Target As' to save the file to the desktop, then try and play it. The federal POS computer I'm using right now fails when clicking the link directly but saving the file locally solves it for me. Give'er a shot.
  7. Worked okay for me. Great idea Derek!
  8. Phil it's a great looking bass and besides it being obvious you did a good amount of planning, you have vision. I would have never thought about using multiple woods on a neck to cause the contrast you have and the little pickup winder and custom pickup covers made my vote an easy take.
  9. Since Erik brought it up, is that Semoid/American Eskimo yours? Mine passed away about 4 years ago and I still miss her something sick.
  10. Nope, I'm sure they pass them around like a...well we won't go there. I'm sure they actually get some people to back down with a letter but otherwise it's nothing but a threat and I wouldn't be suprised in the least this guys already been sent a letter or two but ignoring them..because it's likely when told to put up or shut up, Fender won't bother unless it's worth the legal fees, and I doubt they would deem this worthy of the expense.
  11. You'd hope so but based on what I quoted was over two years old, I doubt it. He's still selling the book and still hacking people off over two years later. For someone like Fender to take legal action would require some considerably larger $$$ to make it worth their while. Otherwise they won't bother. This little guy nipping at the ankles of other little guys is a gross abuse of the system and I expect the guy won't be punished and doesn't have enough $$$ to make lawsuits worth anyones while.
  12. There are lots of options, I have and used an Alesis SR-16 for a good amount of time. The sounds are good but not the highest sample rates by todays standards. Only reason I don't use mine anymore is the sounds in it are also in my DM5 that I trigger via midi kit. The advantages are it is truly stand alone, tap pads are dynamic and the drums can be tuned to taste. Great first drum machine for a non-computer dependent composer. Should be able to eBay one for around $80. My 3 cents (I have a long dm history)
  13. That's interesting, already been in a conflict with Bill Lester over at reranch. Just so people are aware, the not so descreet means of communication here has already hit search engines. So I'd be careful on what's said if it turns into a legal situation.
  14. Howdy lo, save us anwering this again and use the search button in the upper right corner. Clear cut answer, it's a $100 guitar but a good place to start if you don't have tools available.
  15. Let's see, would that either be Las Vegas or Amsterdam? Running away......
  16. If you really want to stick with that bridge you're either going to have E strings floating in high action outer space with a 10". Going with a 12" which is more common to work with in general.
  17. Well this is turning into fine entertainment, someone should charge a cover. Perry, like the new avatar! Now...back to our regularly scheduled head cutting already in progress....
  18. Do they do international shipping, a quick look at the site I couldn't tell? Hey wes, thanks for sharing your tool usage. Goes to show you don't have to go broke to get the job done.
  19. The rule is no less than about 2hp for a router, 12" for the bandsaw and piller drill. Specific's beyond that would solicit a riot, well at least a debate. People have very personal reasons why they favor the tools they use so hopefully some more will chime in on that.
  20. I'm sorry you must be confused, were you under the belief that building guitars is inexpensive? It's certainly cheaper to just go buy one! Keep in mind the tools mentioned are also completely applicable to building bodies as well. 500 for a router is close to double what you'll actually need to spend.
  21. Well it's about damn time Matt! I like the shape, it resembles many but doesn't look exactly like any. The blue and gold look great with the V inlay, very tasteful! Great work!
  22. I'm not being sarcastic when saying what do you think would be a better learning aid, reading it in a book or watching someone actually do it while explaining themselves? I would also think the tools you believe you need will likely change after watching the video a few times. Mine did!
  23. Pott I'd highly recommend getting the StewMac Basic Fretting DVD. It's hugely informative and Dan Erlewin shows the how-to's using simple easily available and inexpensive tools and the way neat cool tools offered by StewMac. This will give you a lot of understanding into what is needed to do the job AND how to do it! Very cool...well worth it!
  24. I have a pick of it I'm using as wallpaper on one of my systems and for the life of me can't find where I got it?
  25. Splended choices! Certainly go with the ebony and turquoise. My first thought is the gold would look great, especially with a floyd trem in gold helps pull it in as more of a dominate color. But a second thought is black would give the turquoise more ability to stand out? I like it all frankly!
