  1. Nice work. Like both colors (I have used both in the past in gloss). I think I see a Loch Ness Green build in the Future for me.
  2. Last all hand built S9. I got the machine a few weeks later.
  3. Yup. I plan to catch up. Missed you guys as well. Not going to be able to have the forum open all the time like I used to but I plan to check in daily for a while. Good to be back. Building guitars is soooo much more rewarding than building furniture. Seems like I have built a lot of furniture and shelves the past few years. Finally finished with most of the house updates so I now get a few minutes to myself... Ha ha ha. Like I never left.
  4. I think this is the board I am getting the fretboard out of. I probably have twenty five boards prepped and slotted but they are all 25.5 and I need 24.75 for this one. Considering doing a multiscale...
  5. Now it has been a few years since I have glued a guitar neck up so I had to remember wtf I was supposed to do. I went with west systems epoxy because the ebony had a few minor cracks in it near the ends. Also means I don't need to clamp it too tight.
  6. Neck took me forever to figure out. I started out trying to make an old neck work... that went south I should have burned it when I had the chance. I didn't have a piece of sapele big enough for a neck and headstock but I had 3 sets of sapele runners on the shelf. So i sacrificed one to be the headstocks for two neck blanks. I will get to the other one later. For now I am only building one at a time. This is supposed to be fun. I went with Sapele runners and I had a almost useless piece of ebony that was basically scrap. If you have ever followed my threads you know I don't like scraps. So I managed to sand it on the drum sander into to lams for the neck. Since this is an SG I am using Limba for the center laminate. Maple just doesn't seem SG like so we are staying with Ebony and Mahogany variants.
  7. I think straight old Sapele should work. I am hoping to build a workhorse here not a sideshow attraction.
  8. Going to need a template so this should do.
  9. So maybe I have a few spare minutes a weekend and wanted to do some builds for myself. What about a SG respin. Something less Gibson and more modern. It won't be like before as I am no longer "in business" just finally gotten back into playing and have a lot of wood in the old garage.
  10. Thanks Carl! The Jeeps got fixed too well. They both are "just working" and the XJ is not worth any extra effort. I am currently building some random furniture from scraps that were not in any shape to build guitars from (lots of epoxy involved). Picked up welding and doing metal legs for the end tables and what not. I really like mid century modern stuff. I have to redo my garage layout so that the shop is more contained and organized. I am cutting down on bench space as it just collects tools and trash. I have not used one of my benches for anything other than tool storage for 3 years... that stuff is all going into tall custom cabinets and work will be done on the proper wood working bench. For guitars I have about 10 traditional builds laying on the shelves that need to get finished and I plan to continue to pursue the alternatives to being trapped by the conventional.
  11. Don't worry I will build again. Once I get some more projects around the house done I will make some time. My friend wants a white strat before the summer to go with Diablo. He is still mad at me because Diablo was supposed to be a simple black strat with a Floyd Rose. He still wants a simple strat with a Floyd Rose. So I have to do it (and make the neck so multilam flamed maple sick that you know there is no way it is not a custom).
  12. I will never build another neck through guitar as long as I live (unless someone pays me to) I hate them. I always forget to pre-drill the wire channels.
  13. Looks like the build you might have been looking for was a Destroyer I built in 2009. Most of that thread was lost in the database crash.
  14. Needs a bug. Preferably a small gnat...
  15. Is that a proper shop I see? Or I am I miss remembering you not having a real shop.
  16. Drak!!! Back!!! You were always one of my favorite builders on this site. Love the Steerhead. Might have to make myself one one day. Love the work!
  17. Does the neck pickup route negate most of the advantage of the neck joint? It looks like you are about 3/8" into the neck tenon. How thick was the full tenon? How much wood is left? Not that it really matters as even a 1/4" slab running into the body helps. I did a neck tenon like that a few times one was on The Hand of Doom and the other was on the day glow Orange destroyer... maybe a few others as well. Can't say I can tell a real difference in them vs my normal neck joints but it adds to the "voodoo"
  18. Yes I assumed fret access was premium. Originally I worried about the stability of the neck joint. Then I remembered that your guitars are considerably thicker than the things I build. I would guess that we have about the same amount of wood at the neck pocket. That aluminum thing I built earlier this year has a fair amount of access as well.
  19. I like it a lot more than I thought I would when you started. The neck joint improved vastly from earlier. Nicely sanded as well. Can't wait to see some oil on it.
