  1. Hmmm... kinda looks familiar. I like it \m/ except the headstock is not pointy enough Ok so kidding aside. So the only thing I would change is on the next neck make sure your headstock pieces is at least 1" thick. This will move your scarf back to the proper position. Scarf joint should land about the third fret side dot marker. The idea is that the fretboard helps support the joint and it is far enough away from the break point that it is not affected by a blow to the headstock. This also keeps the detail accents out of the volute area. Nice work. Enter GOTM!
  2. I agree the Alumitones would fit the theme. However I have a rule about using other manufacturers pickups so that is out. Now if I made some alumitone clones that might be fair. I will have to look into it again but I think the trick is the mini transformer in them.
  3. Use a hot water bath to heat the epoxy before pouring it on. Ideally for a two part you would heat the two parts separately in the hot water. Worst case combine the epoxy in a taller cup and place the cup in a a small bucket of hot water to get it viscous. Then mix it and pour. Flame is hard to control. I usually use a heat gun to smooth it out. A hair dryer on low would work as well Don't you live in the Desert? Just leave the bottles of epoxy in the sun for a few hours before using.
  4. Floyd Rose routes are fun... and easy enough with curtisa how to article. I would ping him and tell him you are from Project Guitar.
  5. Talk to Kevin at FastGuitars I am sure he can do a Floyd Route on a V for you. Tell him you are from Project Guitar.
  6. Looks purple until you take it inside. Then it is black. Usually I would add some black to the red to give it a blood color but this time I left it purple.
  7. Black Transtint has a very purple look to it in bright lights.
  8. Almost want to stop here... But we continue on
  9. After about 3 coats of clear we scuff and start the burst. I like the burst to be in the middle of the coats to add depth.
  10. Don't use a red solo cup to scoop nitro out of a full can. Melts the cup.
  11. Realistic Rules of Building: 1. Do things in the order that make them easiest. This takes a long time to figure out so write it down somewhere. 2. Don't mess up the scale. Ugly guitars that tune properly are much better than ugly guitars that don't 3. Learn to cover up "mistakes" with "features". Strange inlays in weird places, miscellaneous veneers, exotic wood caps... are "I meant to do that" not "Oh Sh*Ts" 4. Use "every build is different...

  12. Tuners installed Closer. I did not get the string pull perfectly straight and there is a bit of fan in the strings after the nut. Good thing is it is realatively easy to make a new head piece. Heck of a lot easier than on an S9 set neck.
  13. Mounting screws are tapped in to the plate. Long screws are not going to work well. The plate is .25" though so plenty of adjustment room without sticking out the back. Shorter screws
  14. Getting everything lined up. Regular pickups are not going to fit. Conscious decision to keep the guitar thin. The 65 year old design is not the only way to build a pickup. Much thinner designed pickup fits fine. I have several designs that are very thin enough for this design.
  15. I really don't like using the CA as sanding it can be tricky and I know the dust is bad. But it is quick and that is what respirators are for. Still some work to do.
  16. Can't really see it in the photo but even the top is still a little uneven. Leveling the back with CA and credit card. I know what you are going to ask. Why are you leveling out with CA when you already grain filled? The vintage grain fill I have is just not really good at it. I love the color though so I always use it and then if I need to have a really flat surface I will use CA on top of it. Normally I don't do super flat clear. I like the nitro to shrink and still show the grain. It makes me feel that the clear is thin and is letting the instrument breathe... yes just "voodoo" but still. For the LP I think it needs to be a mirror finish that is flat and clear... tradition maybe?
