  1. It depends if that's ALL you want. If you want the flexibility to have a warm tubey OD plus a screaming rectumfryer, plus a glassy fender etc etc get the Pod. If not, stick with the valve amp and let it do it's thing!
  2. Aye, and I want to hear clips of the other 30 dudes as well for comparison!
  3. Aye. The band is AKP. I've never played Enter Sandman, and I've been in gigging bands since I was about 15 (I'm 29 now). Beware the "fastest gunslinger" syndrome by the way - no matter how good you think you are, there is always someone better. This is the problem with comparing your skill level with someone else.
  4. I bought a copy of "Guitarist" tonight (even tho it's got the Beatles on the cover), and maybe I'm getting cynical, but everything in it seemed like an advert - the columns, editorial, news pieces... This annoys me. I will try and get hold of a copy of Guitar Player next.
  5. The Pod Pro really is a fantastic piece of kit - I was lucky enough to pick one up off ebay, boxed, for £155!
  6. I guess I'm looking for something aimed at the serious/experienced player. I don't want a free CD so I can play along with the Darkness or anything like that. Maybe I should buy one issue of each and try em out...
  7. Wouldn't it work out more expensive?
  8. And, it stops you stinking! At least temporarily.
  9. They can definitely buff my knob, that's for sure.
  10. To be honest, I've never bought guitar magazines - because I'm not interested in learning to play other people's songs, and for the most part they're full of adverts for gear I can't afford! That said, I do enjoy reading about new techniques, sound recording and learning about other people's setups and rigs. Do you read any guitar mags and if so, would you recommend I have a look at them? What do you look for in a guitar publication?
  11. I realise the thread was about shredders, I was just shooting my mouth off as usual!! Funny you should mention Eruption, I was listening the the live album (Right Here Right Now is it called?) and I actually got pretty bored about halfway through the version of Eruption he played on that... sacrilege eh My preference isn't really lyrics vs. instrumental, it's songs versus just showing off, if that makes sense. Guitar playing for guitar playing's sake should be left on the free CD on the front of Guitar Player hahaa!
  12. My lords, that Rivera is fine looking! Drak this rig is going to be face-meltingly good when you're done! I'm even having evil thoughts about doing it myself somewhere along the line... The main reason I don't is I only have a small car! So when I gig I just put my ENGL Screamer 50, Pedaltrain and guitar in the boot and off I go, it's nice to be so portable and so LOUD. But then, I only tend to play small venues so there we go! This thread is a real education!
  13. I tend to find "guitarist music" really boring - eg. Satch, Vai. I appreciate them as technical players, but I find their albums really dull, targeted at other guitarists. I much prefer players like EVH, Hendrix etc who work in a band setting, playing actual songs and showing how virtuoso guitar work can become part of a greater whole.
  14. Well whatever it is, it seems to be being consumed by the Nothing out of Neverending Story.
  15. Holy crap! Nobody's more surprised about that than me! Happy I could help! I was completely ready to get shot down in flames for being a noob!
  16. This might be a really stupid thing to say, but if your head has an fx loop, can't you run the preamp into the fx return? As I understand it, the fx loop sits in between the pre and power amp sections. Please correct me if I'm wrong!
  17. Luke - yes, it's bloody great! I've been through a lot of pedals and setups in 15 years and this is the closest I've got to my "perfect" setup. No problem Scott - I'm going to give them a try and I'll report back with my findings!
  18. Well, as you insist - here's my new pedalboard, complete with George L cabling: It's a pedaltrain (inside it's flightcase in case you were wondering) with the following on it: TU-2 tuner, Keeley Phat-modded Blues Driver, Keeley Seeing-Eye-modded DS-1 Distortion, Line6 MM4 Modulation Modeller and Line6 DL4 Delay Modeller. I just sold all my other boss pedals, and I doubt I'll be going back - the Line6 stuff is just so compact, easy to use and sounds bloody great. Thanks for the feedback on the cabling guys - I think I'll give it a try for my guitar cords, it's pretty cheap to import from the US at the moment and it looks easy to manage (ie. won't get twisted or knotted as easily as say, Van Damme cable).
  19. I can't read tab. Luckily I've never had to...
  20. This all sounds very complicated!
  21. Ha ha! Well I guess so... not for me, tho. I just replaced a whole string of Boss pedals with two Line6 boxes (DL4 and MM4) and the improvement in my guitar tone was unbelievable! I ain't never going back...
  22. I've always shied away from getting a Whammy, because I've heard numerous reports that it slaughters your tone.
  23. I've just discovered George L cabling while building my new pedalboard (pics can be posted if anyone's interested!), and I was wondering if any of you use this brand of cable for long distances - eg. 15ft between guitar and pedals, and between pedals and amp? I'm basically asking - is it gigworthy stuff? Can it take a beating? One thing I like about it is if it does get a break you can just cut it, screw the plug back on and you're away - no soldering. Also, I've heard it's about the highest quality guitar cable known to man, and I'm increasingly becoming a tone junkie in my old age... ha ha! Any thoughts will be appreciated!
