  1. Just like to say it was a tough call between the Nova, NortStar and Multiscale. I think the Nova won out, but it could have been any of those 3 IMO.
  2. Thats a nice neck, maple looks great with the ziricote. Can't wait to see the completed guitar!! What tweaks are you planning on the multiscale design?
  3. Voted for Dan's acoustic. Really like the elegant style and finish, with the back, neck and headstock wood grain being a real feature. Honourable mentions to Bluesy's 335, I loved the top and the controls being "hidden" but thought the back of the headstock clashed with the neck too much, and Killemall's Explorer, which reminds me of James Hetfields axe except maybe too shiny, possibly needed to be a matt finish or more of a natural grain finish.
  4. Voted for the Kelvinator! I think the rustic look and the materials orgmorg has used are just fantastic. Normally I wouldn't like the "aged" look on a guitar but this one works well. The bridge is probably what makes this guitar, while the pickguard reminds me of the old fridges and fits with that theme nicely.
  5. it seems to be the point of GOTM to me. I suppose its my teacher side that tries to find something good and bad about each one but i started doing the detailed thing for each one because its really what i wanted when i entered I actually stopped making comments on why I had voted the way I had. Got a couple of flames for having an opinion. I agree though, when I get the chance to enter I want to get feedback on what people like and loath about my work. It will obviously help with future builds.
  6. It was a toss up between Pukko's Airytone and Eveguitar's great big chunk of rosewood (I couldn't keep voting for scottyd's bass'). I went with the rosewood for the great natural look and finish.
  7. I have to say that you have made a very beautiful guitar! Can you post the link for your build thread, or cut and paste to here? I'm sure I'm not the only one that would love to see this evolving from wood to guitar! Cheers, Tim.
  8. Liking the progress. What colour LED will you use for the side dots?
  9. A really even field this month. Found myself tossing a coin between scottyd and guitony. Had to give it to guitony for his 2nd build.
  10. This is a good build Pete! I know you have a fair bit more work done already that you can show everyone; is it nearing completion?
  11. Thanks for sharing the build course! You've built an excellent guitar, definitely GOM material! Having had no background experience, what do you think was the best part of the hands on course? What was the most valuable thing/part about having the guy there to show you?
  12. Voted for scottyd's bass. My thoughts: msherman: Should have kept it in the comp! Boggs: Love the inlay and general design. Just a little too purple for my liking, guess I'm not a fan of purpleheart. scottyd: Not much I don't like about this build. The extra detail on the upper horn and pickup covers is a clear winner! verhoevenc: Great looking guitar, and amazing finish considering the last minute disaster. A lot of great details in this. Though I didn't immediately recognise what the neck inlay was with out the description. zyonsdream: interesting.... Very metal guitar, but I don't know if the headstock fits with the body design. I like it but don't love it. Andronico: I love this little travel guitar. I felt the back of the guitar should have had covers over things, keep it uncomplicated in looks. Boner: Um pink? I don't think we should encourage spandex and tube socks on rock guitarists to come back. Mickguard: Good solid build, and the decal is great work. It will definitely have a few people do a double take. Though the knob above the other control assembly seems out of place. Jyrki: Really like this guitar, especially the offset of the binding and back/top colours. Also another for double takes. Hitone: I'm not a Mavericks fan. Jukkasil: This looks like it should have a bigger body on it with the size of the "f" holes. Makes it look a little cluttered. I like the natural finish though, which would have gone well with a wood binding. rhoads: I bumped into the youtube build vids by accident. Really appreciate those and the various build threads with this. The more I see of this guitar the more I like, simple and elegant. The white body and wenge neck is a great design. orgmorg: I get the idea for this, but I'd really have to hear it to fully appreciate it. It would need to have a beautiful sound to contrast the rugged looks. Images of front porches in summer spring to mind.
  13. Keep it coming Perry! I've really enjoyed the videos on youtube. Inspiring stuff!
  14. I have to agree. I do get a muddy sound out of my 7-string flying V (Epiphone). Normal register is fine but the low B really needs to be on a longer scale than 24.75". I put on a heavier gauge string and that cleared it up a bit, not that I mind it being a little muddy sounding. Oh nice build by the way!
  15. What finishes are you going to use? Also is there much of a carve on the single cut? If there is the pics aren't doing it justice.
  16. Have to second that! When I saw "strat" in the title I thought "boring" but this is anything but. Pity it will be a stock neck, at least try to get him to have that finish on the headstock.
  17. I like the highlights on the fretboard, gives the guitar a cool look. I agree with the oil finish. Keep it with that rich chocolate look and highlight the rosewood.
  18. So many guitars, such a big month.... Voted for sherman's second entry - thought it was the better of the two, great work! Honourable mentions to Kenny, Wez, Scotty and Jyrki.
  19. By the way he makes use of the extra strings you may be making him a 9 stringer!! Any shots of the fibre optic side dots?
  20. I think this needs to be in the GOM thread! Love the headstock.
  21. So did you use MOP as an inlay where the frets would have run? Also the true oil has really brought out the walnut, looks great!
  22. Thought I would put in some of my thoughts as to why I voted for "The Ivy". Just IMHO of course, and all the builds are of such a high quality it is really down to opinion. Jester: Very professional looking build, and love the neck laminates. Also like the way the neck is inlay free so that it highlights the binding and gold hardware. Not a fan of the colour for the top though, but it works well. Also the pickup cavity seems to be doubling as weight relief, not sure if that was the plan, but again not a fan. Still looks great and wouldn't look out of place next to other PRS guitars. Decadantjon: Great work on the inlay and the colours work well together. Like the figuring of the wood. My missus liked the pickgaurd shape as well (I didn't, but she may have better taste). I'd prefer the body to have been stained darker, as it does seem cream and black which doesn't take my fancy. The inlay, while well done, also doesn't take my fancy. Phil: I sent a pic of this too my brother under the title "novelty guitar/bass". It's well made, and is an achievement, but it feels like there are that many strings 'because you can' rather than for a purpose. Hence novelty. Doug: I find that the figured maple clashes too much with the neck-thru woods. Nothing else strikes me as interesting with it. Scottyd: Like the body shape. The LED inlays are a nice touch, as is the wooden bridge. The fact that a lot of the hardware is self built is good too. Not quite as novelty as Phil's, but still 6 strings still feels like 'because you can'.
  23. Like the stripes! You're certainly living up to the idea of building your very own guitar. What's your second build going to be?
  24. These are just my opinions that led me to my vote for oztradie. Maikman: As a newb myself I appreciate the effort, but I'm not big on the stock Fender design. Strandberg: Terrific natural finish. Love the neck through look. Great build. If I was a bass player you would have had my vote. Jammy: interesting design and like the semi-hollow F hole feature to the design. Just not my cup-o-tea. Oztradie: fell in love with the design features the first time I saw this. All the little features are great, and the laminate neck is a great feature to the back of the guitar. Plus it's all Aussie wood!! My only criticism is that the burst ended up a little lighter than during construction (where it looked amazing). Capu: the more I look at this guitar the more I like. I think this is the reason I like it but didn't vote for it. Just didn't grab me immediately. Great build though. Black labb: Have to be honest and say I don't like the shape and layout. But has to be given props for originality. Dawnofzion: Once again don't like the shape and layout. I like the finish and features, just guess it messes too much with my preconceived ideas of guitar shapes.... Superfly: Great build. Really like this, close second to Oztradie's. Hoodlebug: I'd already made my mind up by the time you had posted. But this is a great build. I love the lines and the originality of the carve. Would have prefered to see the finish as a burst to really highlight the carve. Just my thoughts as an amateur.
  25. My 7 string V for standing up playing. My dreadnought acoustic for sitting down.
