  1. fear factory is thrash/death...rammstein is thrash(simplistic though it is),nightwish is the same old school heavy metal iron maiden was doing years ago...opeth is sometimes death, sometimes rock, sometimes acoustic...just because a band puts several styles in their repoirtiure(sp?) does not mean you need to reclassify them.just classify each song if you must. those sub genres are for nerds....metalheads just want to listen to metal.i have my car full of everything from sadus to slayer to bloodbath, meshuggah, lamb of god, deicide, exodus, opeth, kreator, soulfly, sepultua, six feet under, the haunted, nuclear assault, skrew, testament, byzantine, suicidal tendances, ministry ,white zombie,prong,megadth...it'sall justmetal. discussing subgenres is like debating picard vs capt. kirk....it's for da noids
  2. not to burst your bubble...but the ring is not for the guy...it's a symbol of commitment. but anyway...an engagement ring does not have to be a huge, gaudy thing... but the guitar...if you decide to go with a production guitar, look at the rgt prestige series...they have some very nice, versatile, classy instruments in that pricerange.i have played a few,and they were allvery sophisticated guitars esp also has a "standard" line with some very nice instruments..japanese made, not ltd korean
  3. my poplar jackson had a jb/59 set of pups...did not help
  4. the phenolic came in today... look guys...it's very hard...like ebony maybe...but it is WAAAY less stiff.it will add no stability at all as a fretboard that i can see. i think it would be great for some things...cavity covers, knobs, humbucker rings,etc...but it's just dense plastic.i will not be using it as any substitute for ebony...it's just not the same thing at all.
  5. that neck will not work with that guitar.you need to do some research on scale length.
  6. mick...you do know you can buy kits in the 5-10 watt range?build your own box and buy the speaker you want.they are based on vintage amps
  7. once it breaks in it stays broken in...just like a guitar. but they will continue to get sweeter over some time
  8. yeah it really is...the tubes get hot and really mellow out. well...i am not sure what you mean...but there are alotof boutique builders who do just that... vht has a 50 watt pittbull for boutique metal guys...engl makes 50 watters i think...and there are many, many more. have you looked at orange amps?i hear good things about them. http://www.rocksolidamps.com/index.php?con...ii=50&mid=2 maybe you want 25 watts http://www.rocksolidamps.com/index.php?con...ii=81&mid=2 anyway...they are out there...but they cost the big bucks
  9. i use ss fretwire exclusively...my stewmac tang nipper cuts it just fine, and so do my cutters(home depot wirecutters) the diamond files would handle it...but i file the ends with a metal file, and sandpaper... my stewmac fret files don't work too well for dressing them,so i don't dress them at all...i just get the fretboard as perfect as i can,and seat the frets as well as i can,and i have no need for leveling or crowning. but the stewmac fret files WILL work...it just ain't easyi prefer the ss frets anyway because they just feel better.and i enjoy installing them
  10. the frets are partially polishedjust from removing the paint from them...but not completely yet
  11. i slipped a string in and i see what you mean about the phillips screw...it won't be until i string it up until i see if it is,in fact,a problem.if it is,i will replace those screws with some flat topped screws...but i wonder about these issues...i wonder because i know the 2300 can't possibly have these same issues... but it may simply be meant to have a different string height...i think on my next ones i will just implement a neck angle.but i am quite sure this one will be fine...it's just cutting it closer than i would like....i am not wild about filing down the allen screws
  12. my fretboard height is about 5/16" to 3/8" from top of body to top of fret.
  13. maiden...i just rechecked and everything seems right...but i do notice that to lower the saddles all the way the allen screws will be in the way of the strings....have you considered shortening the allen screws from under the saddles?that's what i will do if i need to. this is the first time i have used this bridge and that could easily be one of those quirks you don't notice until too late. but if i must i will dissasemble the entire bridge and take off some of the baseplate..i don't see that happening though...my straightedge shows me right where i need to be ithink it would be nice of kahler to provide optimum dimensions though.
  14. it's already cleared and leveled...just not buffed
  15. maiden...i measured my kahler before setting the neck height...but i don't recall it being taller than my floyd equipped guitars.do you have the 7300? the 7200 is taller by far.did you lower the saddles all the way?
  16. http://westhemann.com/exploder/IM000118.JPG well, that's all the pics for now.after the final buffing and assembly i will get some outdoor pictures and i will size them all properly...i think they are too large here

  19. not stained, transluscent color coat.same as thhebody but it's hard to see in those pics... the fretboard is flame maple...same as the neck
  20. jackson uses poplar on alot of guitars. i dislike the tone of poplar imensely.it is very one dimensional and dull imo...like basswood
  21. http://westhemann.com/exploder/IM000108.JPG
  22. just to be clear...the ibanez edge trem is every bit as good as an original floyd....some think better
  23. looks like a total loss to me.you COULD fill in all of those massive holes and start over, but a new piece of wood would be a better use of time. that is tough to look at
