  1. $40 for 100' roll of stranded 22 gauge wire!?!?!?!? I almost choked when I saw that. Go to All Electronics (google it). They usually have good deals on wire. I've ordered from them a bunch of times. Lots of cool stuff there. wow sorry i didn't even look at the prices i just remembered seeing it on there when iwas looking around at there site one day like i said i just go down to radio shack and get mine there its a little pricey (not stewmac pricey) but since i don't go through a lot it isn't really that bad.
  2. i just use unshielded 22 gage stranded wire from raidio shack and i haven't had any noise problems but then agian its not like i have wired a not of guitars and most of the ones i have done where active pickups. but any way you might try raidio shack or http://store.guitarfetish.com/guhoupwi22ga.html http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics,_p...cuit_Wires.html http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics,_p...cuit_Wires.html
  3. i would say that there are hundreds of thousands of single cutout guitar owners out there that would argue i like the first one better but thats just my opinion to be a little more exact i liked single hump on the first one is more tele style I also was digging on the countour of the first one and ya got to go with the TOM to be honest i just really was diggin on the first design better the only thing i could say i would have liked to see is a multi scale neck.
  4. well at one time you could get some little passive crossovers from radio shack but they don't carry them any more i has a few laying around at one time but i cant find them any way they where bulky so it would have to go in to a box. but if i was gonna do that there are plenty of little eq's out there that would probably do a better job.
  5. What's louder than 11? theres 12 notes (in western music) so one loud one would leave 11 quiet ones......... i thought you where refering to This Is Spinal Tap "You see, most blokes will be playing at 10. You’re on 10, all the way up, all the way up...Where can you go from there? Nowhere. What we do, is if we need that extra push over the cliff...Eleven. One louder."
  6. Ok heres a stupid idea i have had rolling around in my head for a while but haven't ever really researched how about taking like a three knob set up haveing a VTT but theres the twist have th first tone filter the highs as normal then use a coil to filter the lows with the other volume knob ok like i said its just been floating around up there along with idea to build a hardtop mustang and last weeks cheerios
  7. WOW 2MM um i think you should take a look at this http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/trussadjust.htm I don't know what the conversion on but i know .01" is not 2mm
  8. i can't swear that you wont go through but it supprised me how little you take off when your scalloping a neck btw what method are you gonna use i used files and sand paper also what ever method use lots of masking tape.
  9. You betcha you'll get a kicking for starting that NOS tube discussion on a sensible forum. Damnit Jim - we're guitarists, not voodoo practitioners! In all seriousness however, you really need to know the ground for NOS tubes and some are worth the cash. That said, arguing that all NOS beats modern production stock hands down is a fallacy in most cases. But not all, of course. It's like comparing a vintage Fender to a modern Fender....the modern production is better in terms of accuracy and consistency but you do get some vintage stinkers amidst the old gems. I'll shut up now before I have to warn myself. i agree i have a old tube works amp with one 12ax7 i have tried several diffent tubes some new some i don't have a clue and the one i like the best just says 12ax7 and then in little red letters CHINA
  10. wow thats amazing wood and i love the design you should enter it in gotm
  11. i have seen them but didn't pay much attention because i am nervous about buying from overseas btw i liked this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MfcIS...em=170268323151
  12. do you have any experience with guytronix I have looked at the Gilmore Jr and it looks like a interesting build with the 2 watt conversion it looks like it could be very versital
  13. if you are running a tube amp then the afterburner is fine on a solid state amp the best you thing you will get is more volume i played around with the twin diode's a while back and it sounded ok but i didn't have hot enough pickupts to really get it to clip nice there are a lot of other onboard effects you can look in to.
  14. i got some stuff from this guy he was fast and every thing was really nice quality http://www.turretboards.com/ i have also used weber for some parts i haven't used him but this guy has some really nice prices http://dockeryamps.com/web/index.php also you might want to look at http://store.marshamps.com/ http://www.missionamps.com/
  15. hey this gives me an idea when ever i get around to a build i can call it a Tim-caster
  16. it looks like he used a drill press for the pickup cavities well all i can say is keep it up i really hope you get this thing together and learn a few things.
  17. lol when i say it sounds like its at the bottom of a well i mean its got some serious echo. well i guess i will just keep it down and be happy with it i mean for that price i can't really complain if the reverb is crap maybe i will finaly break down and buy a pedal i don't really play guitar i just play around with one more or less and have always just depende on onboard over drive and distortion.
  18. Hey i fell in the trap and got one of the crate v18 112 combos http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product...-Amp?sku=487051 well its not the brightest amp but i have another amp if i am wanting my ears to bleed i am actualy diggin on its tone. my only complaint is the reverb if you turn it up past 3 it sounds like your amp is in the bottom of a well my question is does anybody have experience with modding or replacing a reverb tank it hooks up using rca plugs so that part will be easy im just not sure about impedance and output and all that good stuff or do i just need to say forget it and not worry with the reverb.
  19. i think the early gibson pickups where the same bridge and neck but that was 40 or more years ago the bridge is pickup has more windings on it making it have a higher resistantce but also giving it more out put since the strings arnt moving as much over it it helps balance the two pickups as far as width i have been tring to find some info on that my self and i am wondering did thos happen to come form a guitar with a floyd rose. if so it might have a f-spaced pickup in the bridge. they are wider than a standard humbucker they are f-spaced because they where made to go on fenders in the bridge position. i have been tring to find some info myself about running a set of emg hum's in a strat.
  20. Say what you want i love Zachary's site i think the man is probably fairly intelgent and a very capable luither i also think he is a few french fries short of a happy meal and when i have had a bad day at work i will read some of his site laugh my ass off and feel better.
  21. The guy build cars and when i say he builds cars i mean he has a 33/34 3window in his shop that he build form flat sheet metal he also has a model a roadster that he started out as a cowl das and window uprights building things out of metal is what he does so it kinda makes sence that he would want to build a guitar out of metal its kinda his thing.
  22. when i said steel i guess we are on different wave lenths there i am talking about sheet metal 18 gauge should be fine it would still be a little hefty but by no means was i saying toss some half inch steel plate together. and when you are talking about a guy that has build cars form 4 x 8 sheets off steel i would say he is very capable.
