  1. I would sincerely doubt that, in the wake of Dime's death, that any company in its right mind would discontinue a 'dime' endoresed product- i would imagine that demand is going through the roof right now. I would say that you can be safe in getting one- that said, I too have heard the Bill Larence in question, and i think that it is a superior unit. To my ears, it didnt seem as overly harsh as the duncan model. Luke
  2. I am sorry, but I dont have any first hand opionion, but I have heard that they are actually pretty strong. I know Eric Johnson uses them, and I have a friend who uses them, and he saaid they stand up pretty well. Sorry i cant be of more assistance- BTW, I personally would love to see your new pedal board. Luke
  3. Hi Curtis, Sorry- I am a bit confused- are you going to use use a tuneomatic instead of a trem? Luke
  4. I really love teles... I think that is one guitar (or even guitar shape) that I have never owned (or played for m ore than a few hours). My personal favorite is Keith Richard's Micawber- I think that thing is beautiful. Not a fan of Muddy Waters tele though. I would love to build a nice tele down the track. The bound teles are really nice as well. Luke
  5. The P90s that I had in my SG were directly mounted to the body- the pickup actually screws straight into the body (on the front of a P90, there are 8 screws- 6 for the strings, and 2 to secure the pickup to the instrument). P90s are noted for their great tone- however, they can be a noisy pickup- especially if you use a dirty tone, effects, etc. Added to a semi may amplify the problem- my aria was a semi (PAF equiped) and it was a very noisy guitar- feedback like no tomorrow. I think P90s would have added more noise. I have heard mixed reviews about the humbucking P90s- most people seem to say that some of the majic is taken away. However, I urge you to stay away from the Semour Duncan 'Hot' Soapbar. It is a horrible pickup. It is an overwound coil on a ceramic magnet. The result is a pickup that sounds scratchy on a clean channel, but not enough drive to make a great distorted tone. It was the biggest waste of money I have ever spent. Luke EDIT- PAFs are my favorite pickup- I would check out a humbucker with Alnico magnets (I preff alnico 2), with a DC resistance less than 7. You could, of course, consider winding your own...
  6. Thanks a million guys! I had bought the metal rasp before I asw the other opinions- i will buy a mircoplane on payday. Thanks again guys! Luke
  7. Thanks alot man! I'll buy the one you recomened first thing tomorrow. BTW- are you still making a Les Paul type guitar? Hope it all goes well. Thanks again man, Luke
  8. Hi man, No, the binding is different. The binding on the fingerboard/neck is white, and the rest is black/cream ply- 2 different types of binding. I believe the back of the guitar is 5 play, and the front is 7 (I could be wrong on the number of plys, but the front and back use different laminates of ply) Hope thats a help, Luke
  9. Hi Everyone, I was wondering if someone could help me. I went to the hardware shop today to buy a rasp, and I was shown 2 different 'rasps'. I will try to describe them: 1. The first one looked like a generic metal file (one side flat, one side round) 2. The second one looked like a cheese grater for wood. I was told that they are both rasps, both do they same thing, and there is no difference between the two. Is that correct? Is there a differnce between the two? Is either better than the other for neck shaping? Thanks in advance guys, Luke
  10. I guess I am too late, but have you considered using stompboxes? I got sucked in, and bought the Digitech RP10 when they first came out. It had some very impressive presets (as in 'Look what THIS can do!') but the whole thing seemed so unmusical to me- logarythms (sp) etc. I went back to pedals- I REALLY do preffer the sound of inexpenive time based effects (Danelectro, Dods, Dunlop etc) over the processor sounds (I mean, the Chorus on the RP10 sounded like 2 guitars playing just slightly out of time and slightly out of tune [as is the chorus effect], but my chorus pedal *sounds* like a chorus pedal. That said, I was even more disapointed with the crunch sounds on the board. My main overdrive is a Hotcake, but I have made may other 'boutique' pedals as well (fuzz/overdrive/distortion type pedals). I am MUCH happier with this set up. Hope this is some food for thought, Luke
  11. Congratulations Dave! All the best to you, your partner, and your new son! Christmas came early this year, eh? Congratulations again Dave- please accept the following smoking emoticon in lieu of a cigar! Well done! Luke
  12. Have you tried Perry? He has alot of inlay material- I am not sure if he has what you are looking for, but it may be worth asking. Luke
  13. Are they valve amps? I thought Dime was a solid state man?
  14. Off topic, I guess, but... Alot of people are attacking Dean guitars at the moment, saying that they shouldnt continue to make the new Dime guitars. I dont think that it right- I think they should still continue to make the guitars. It was a buisness deal. Since Dime cant actively promote/use Dean guitars anymore, imagine if Dean attempted to reneg on the endoresement contract, thus having Dime's estate having to pay back all the monies (since he wont be able to fulfill his end of the bargin). Sad as it may be in the circusmtanes, life and buisness has to go on.
  15. You know, I really loved Re-load. So many people think its the weakest Metallica album, but I really liked it. The tour for the album was the first time I got to see them live as well- that was a great show. If anyone is thinking about seeing Metallica, but dont know if its worth it, I can honestly say it was worth every penny. Luke
  16. Yeah, he seemed to not care much about that sort of thing...its like september 11- No one would have believed this could happen last week. I mean, who would want to hurt Dime? All he wanted to do was play his guitar. I still cant belive it has happened. Luke
  17. I find the whole thing disgusting on so many levels. I mean, he killed Dime whish ids absolutly horiffic in itself, but not only that, he shot him in the FACE in front of his BROTHER- his best friend AND in front of so many people. He not only killed him, as far as I am concerned, he tried to rob him of dignity, not to mention the AUDACITY of shooting him whilst playing. He wouldnt even PAY FOR A TICKET to get in. I am really disgusted by the whole thing-I would like to swear and get banned - thats how angry I am over it. I would have liked the guy who did it to have been dragged through court, etc, etc-I think the whole thing was over too quickly (obviosuly the cop did what he had to do) but there is some sort of closure attained through going through the legal/court process (for Dime's family). Imagine what that guy has done to his OWN family- not only was thier son killed, but now he is one of the most hated people in the world. He should not have put his family through that. I think he was a very sad, SELFISH, pathetic no-hoper like Chapman. I am going out of my way to try and forget the shooters name- I dont think he deserves to be remebered by any of us. Luke
  18. Some sites say that Vinnie Paul was shot as well. It may be that another member of the band is shot. THe official Pantera site had a news update on Dimebag and Vinnie Paul being sghot, but I cant open it (too many people). THats really horrible stuff- I just cant believe it. EDIT: "Reports are coming in from Columbus, Ohio, where an alleged shooting occurred at Alrossa Villa, the nightclub where Damageplan was performing tonight. The earliest reports indicate that Dimebag Darrell and one other band member were among those killed. "
  19. If I were you, I would try and track down an Ibanez TS 5 (the plastic 'soundtank' model). They are dirt cheap if you can find them, and easily modded to TS808 specs. 2nd hand shops have alot of them usually. Luke
  20. The only thing about Zakk is, i dont know, he seems a bit strange in the interviews i have read. Hes probably a nice guy, but why does he want to beat everyone up? Im not really a big fan of the 'Im a tough guy, I can beat your ass' sort of thing. I cant imagine RR being like that- he seemed like a really nice guy. Zakk is still a great player though.
  21. I think a fairly simple idea that would suit this guitar would be chrome paint. On just about any other guitar it would look horrible, but I think it would add to the Travis Bean vibe (didnt they have aluminium necks?) I think if just the top was painted this colour, it could look reminiciant of a Zemaitis (which seems to have been an influence on its design) Most Chrome paint seems to be a grey-ish colour- If there is alot of the body removed under the big pickgard, maybe it could be filled? Just an option, Luke
  22. Hi, Not to be a smartar*se or anything, but I don't know either. That said, could you please post your results? Thanks man, Luke
  23. Hi man- you have done a really nice job! I hope you are happy with it- it looks like a nice guitar. Luke
