  1. make a strat shaped guitar with a maple neck, alder body, synchronised tremolo, 3 single coil pickups with the bridge pickup angled towards the neck and you might get the sound.... lol basically - all of the above contribute to the sound character of a Strat, it depends on how close you want to be to a Strat sound, but changing the body shape shouldn't affect it too much as long as the size/weight/density are about the same
  2. you need pogo pins... google it... we use them all the time at work...
  3. this looks like something Rick Nielson from Cheap Trick would play...lol..... don't forget to get piccies of his reaction when you give him it.
  4. not if you use something like this - Hot Rod but if you use a traditional rod like this - Fender style or this - Gibson Style, then yes you probably will need a curved channel
  5. the major issue is balance.... make the body super-light an' you're gonna need a super-light h/stock too... but this depends on where the strap buttons are placed too. some SG's are h/s heavy & can nose dive.... on mine however i put the strap button on the back of the upper horn & had no probs with balance.
  6. hey paulie... you know the definition of a gentleman don't you? a: a guy that owns a banjo - but doesn't play it!! lol congrats anyway.....
  7. Thanks dude. The reason the side dots are where they are is because the body and neck will be painted white. He wanted the side dots in the neck not the fretboard. This way the black dots will contrast with the white lacquer. the problem i see with that is that the dots will get painted over .... should have left them longer & then sanded them back when levelling the paint... just my opinion, maybe you have something else planned...
  8. i'm getting this from here - http://fretfind.ekips.org/

  15. +1 the neckpocket is different to the top & the grain in the pickup rout is going the wrong way.....
  16. this is exactly the finish i'm after on my current Strat project - it's even got a rosewood neck too!! can u document the order u stained it please....?
  17. may be interested in the fretwire & fret bevel file......
  18. thats how he normally does them.... which is a bad thing because?
  19. i've heard stories of StewMac's dyes fading in a few weeks - i asked a question about it in the finishing section a while back to see if it was true & all i got back was a pedantic response from Drak telling me to phone 'em & get them to guarantee me that it wouldn't fade my post - that was way back in Feb & i've heard nothing else to the contrary.....
  20. well i'm assuming you're talking about Aussie blackwood - if so then yes it's perfectly usable - 1.5" is the thickness of a lot of explorers etc it just depends on whether its 1.5 after planing. if it still needs planing after sawing then it may be too thin - but either way you could still put a drop top on it of maple or bubinga or something. an' if you got any spare you can always ship it to me for offering you sound & usable advice
  21. hello & welcome... this is where you need to be looking.... Supply section. other than that check your Yellow Pages for local timber yards - you may be surprised at what they stock or can get & will be much cheaper than so called "tonewoods"
