  1. GBT If you are into building a thickness sander, check this out. http://www.shopnotes.com/main/sn86-toc.html This magazine is currently on newstands.
  2. The material most amps are coverd in is called Tolex. If you do a google search for it, several suppliers will come up.
  3. Looking good man. Very interesting the way you left the tabs to hold the part in the blank. When I cut mine, I stick the whole blank down with double stick tape. That way I can cut all the way around and not have any tabs to sand off.
  4. Nice job! Much improved over the original.
  5. Me too! I ripped the idea from someone else along the way. Glad it worked out for you.
  6. Hey my jointer is very similar to yours! Mine is just adhesive backed sandpaper stuck to the top of my table saw. I slide the fence up next to it to create the illusion of squareness.
  7. Awesome, thanks a lot guys. That's what I was hoping to hear.
  8. Hey guys I need some expert advice. I received the wood pictured above and I was thinking if I opened the "book" the other way for the book match, I would end up with more of the quilt being in the guitar instead of cut off on the edge. If you look at the picture above you can see that the middle of the boards is kind of plain and all the figure is on the left and right. The only problem with my plan is there are two defects on the back side that will be in my joint if I open the book the other way. The bigger of the two defects will fall where the neck pocket gets cut out so I'm not worried about that one. The smaller one looks to be about 1/4 to 5/16" deep and will fall right where my string through holes will be. I am not worried about carving into the defect, it isn't that deep. I just wondered if any one could forsee any other problems.
  9. I'm not sure what you should change. I love the idea but something just seems off to my eye. I think maybe the slats are too wide, or too staight. Maybe the lines should be less perpendicular to the centerline of the guitar. Does that make sense? I'm probably not much help. The F-hole in and of itself is very curvey, maybe the slats need alittle more curve to them.
  10. Soapbar, didn't you used to have something on this site about wrapping sand paper around a feeler gauage and using that to file nuts?
  11. I have one. I lliked the sound of it through a PA. I used mine frequently at my church. I left it leaning against the sofa and one of my boys knocked it over. The neck body joint seperated. I epoxied it back together, and it happened again. It broke a little bit worse the second time. Now its sitting in the case waiting for me to get motivated to try and fix it again.
  12. It's not covering up anything --it's enhancing the design. It's just wood, nothing holy about wood. This kind of guitar without a pickguard looks silly if you ask me--like the builder forgot something. Besides, scratchess in the finish kind of tend to cover up the wood too, after a while. And judging from the scratches I've put into my pickguards, it's a good thing they're there! Ha! just trying to rile you up there Mickguard.
  13. I dig the segmented f-hole concept. I think it might need a little refining from what you posted, but I think it could be very cool. P.S. Why cover up perfectly good wood with a pickgauard?
  14. What ya think of the Batman Guitar?.....6044 gallons Sorry, I got distracted by the Sea World exhibit in you living room . It think the batman guitar looks pretty cool. I'm really excited to see your carving work on the dragons as well.
  15. Spyykko is right on. Unless you are totally dedicated to using the CNC to carve your top, just do it by hand. I'm trying to do my whole guitar on the cnc, I use it at work and it seems fun to do it this way, but I could have probably been done a long time ago if I just did it by hand. If you do decide to go with the cnc, I would love to give you some advice but I need to know what your machine is capable of. What brand of machine do you have? Is it a 2 or 3 axis machine?
  16. Nice cars. I think you need a bigger aquarium though! Jeesh, how many gallons is that thing? I looks very nice.
  17. Thanks Chris. I'll have to check out masecraft.
  18. Looks nice. What are your materials?
  19. Do you find that you get a sufficiently hard finish with the water based lacquer? Sweet bass by the way!
  20. Hey dude, have you cut this thing yet? Don't let the anti-cnc guys get you down. ha ha! One thing you aren't going to be able to do on the cnc is the square corner on the lower horn. There is just no way to cnc that and get a square corner. What software are you modeling that in? When you do finally cut, take lots of pics. I'm into cnc myself and like to see how other people fixture things.
  21. Looking good D! what did you use for that black binding? I really like it.
  22. Sounds really good. How much tweaking did you have to do get those tones? Do you just use the pod for recording?
  23. I may be able to help you as well. PM me if you are interested.
