  1. if I were you I'd move the lower ummm "leg rest" further to the butt. the way it is now I can imajine u'd have to strum on the fret board if you were sitting just my 2 cents
  2. that is exactly what I was trying to say and it's also you allways expect more from the pro's. so a decent guitar by an amateur can be more inpressive then a status quo awesome guitar by a pro. in the end it doesn't really matter how peopl vote because it's their vote. and the buisiness of no comments until after it's over, I know I never read them before I vote but I can understand why people would want their to be no comments until after, I like reading the comments after I vote, It's nice to see why other people voted
  3. I agree. like rhoads56 said the pro's get "discounted" already. I know I'm always less likely to vote for a "pro" and frankly all this junk about complaining when ppl put down your guitar or your losing, well I just vote for the guitar I like the best. if the best constructed guitar in the world was up for GOTM but the one next to it just had a "vibe" that appealed to me the vibey one would get my vote. all in all I like things the way they are. wow that was kind of a rant. sorry
  4. I'd glue the peice back in then use the glue/sawdust method to fill any gaps then sand like a crazy fool
  5. basically I want an acoustic guitar I can take with me on car trips and such. I live in a family of 5 so space is premium. I was thinking of getting the pickup just to increase it's versatility. so most people would sugjest the baby taylor over the martin backpacker?
  6. I'm looking at getting a martin backpacker and was wondering what other people thought of them and if they're worth it or if I should just get a regular acoustic or one of those small ovations. also if it's worth getting the pickup in the backpacker or not. right now I only have a strat but my dad has an old yamaha acoustic that he never uses so what do you guys think I should do? thanks
  7. you could do a wooden bowl back, it would probably be easier than fiberglass or atleast more possible something like these: http://www.mandolincafe.com/archives/builders/bowlback.html
  8. why not do something like the martin backpacker? or even a solidbody backpacker with a speaker instead of the soundhole?
  9. you can use two in order to run them at 18v or both at 9v for longer battery life but running at 18v changes the tone, and batteries last long enough so... (IMO it is better to run EMG's at 18v, sounds better to me) in conclusion just run them on 1 9v and follow the schematic that comes with the pickups or if you are a little more experienced run them at 18v. MOST guitars with EMG's are only using 1 battery
  10. I think you should stabalize the cracks...lol I've filled cracks with glue before, or glue and sawdust but I don't know if thats the "ideal" way but it has worked for me
  11. my strat. one of the deluxe ones with the S-1 switching. I can get any sound I want out of it. it's a HSS with the locking trem
  12. woot way to show our patiotic pride! as my dad says "down with the hideous red leaf!" good job! I love your stuff man its sweet
  13. If it's any consolation, for me voting for your guitar would be like voting for Fender or Gibson if they put one of theirs up for GOTM! ← I agree. its the whole go for the underdog ideaish. I voted for setch. great guitar!
  14. i think any glue would wreck the finish. what kind of guitar is it. if it's like a strat style you could screw it where the pickguard goes so when you take it off and puth the stock pickguard back on you couldn't see the screw holes
  15. http://www.geofex.com/ has alot on effects http://www.geofex.com/PCB_layouts/Layouts/ultrafln.pdf there's a flanger for you but it uses that bucket brigade chip that can be expensive $15cnd but if u look around some sites have them cheaper I got some from some place in quebec for $5cnd but i don't remember where it was or what it's called
  16. if I could I would grab the screw ends with pliers and twist/pull them out. if you have a drill press you could try drilling them out. this happened to me with tuners b/c I didn't drill big enough piolot holes. just a thought
  17. its a wench to finish though every time you touch it it gets a dent in it. and the finish isn't that durable. its a softwood so it is extremely easy to work with though
  18. 1) I like the schaller locking tuners but they are pretty expensive 2) I may not know what I am talking about but that doesn't look like a floyd rose to me. floyd rose guitars also normally have a locking nut 3) depends on your confidence with a soldering iron 4) depends on how you want the pups to be wired 5) did you clear coat the paint? you also need to strip the previous paint to the basecoat, through the clear but not to the wood. any paint will chip.
  19. http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Bodies,_necks,...uitar_Neck.html stew mac neck through neck never used one so no idea as to quality
  20. I run my emg 89 at 18v and get no distortion just imaculate clean tone. no clipping
  21. I think it would look better if you elongated it somewhat.
  22. hey where did your dad get the klingon reverberationg plasma saw? I've been looking all over for them but can't find them anywhere!
  23. the bridge isn't on it in those pics so I assume your talking about the tailpeice. a tailpeice is where the strings anchor, mandolins use loop end strings not ball end. I got it off ebay. I got 2 like that one, a flowery one and a four string one for like $20. theres alot of differnt varieties available. one thing that made it difficult is it had to be off center as if it were centered it would be impossible to play sitting down
  24. 13" scale length. the pickup ring is but up with the edge, that happened because my little 8" bandsaw doesn't like cutting thick stock. I had it stringed up and it played well when you were standing, but was a little unwieldly when sitting. I made the neck before I knew anything so it was a butt joint neck-headstockwith about a half an inch thick walnut skunk stripe going through the back for support. yeah the moral of the story is no butt joints. under full string tension the headstock came so far up the strings were popping out of the nut.
  25. this is a solidbody warlock style mandolin under construction. 4-piece spruce body, emg 89, and the neck will be 1 piece maple this is my first attempt at making an instrument so any sugjestions are welcome. the finish is autopaint from rattlecans I don't remember what kind off hand but I'll look and see later. pics at: http://www.freewebs.com/selmac/themeanie.htm
